Sword in the Stone

Do they still do the Sword in the Stone ceremonies where they pick an adult and a child to try and pull out the sword? I remember watching that as a kid, but I don't see it on the entertainment schedule for Jan. 19th, when we were thinking of going. Thanks!

Re: Sword in the Stone

No clue if it will be offered on the 19th but it was a peak season offering this past year. I'm curious... how long have they been doing that show for?

Re: Sword in the Stone

I remember when I went one year, I went up to try it and it didnt work for me. Then the girl after me went up to go try it, she pulled on it, then she let go and was sitting there for like a second or two, then the sword started rising and then she grabbed onto it again. LOL.

I believe it's been around since 1983, I don't know the exact date or anything though.

Of course you know the year, though XP

But yes, sadly, Merlin won't be returning to do the ceremony until Summer time.

Re: Sword in the Stone

That's too bad. Does anyone know why it's only in the summer?

That show is kind of special to my family. My sister actually got picked to pull the sword out when we were kids. You know how Merlin tells the kid to make a wish, but then stops them before they could? Well, my sister actually made her wish! As the ruler of Disneyland, my sister commanded everyone to have fun at Disneyland that day! Merlin seemed kind of surprised that someone actually made a wish before he could stop them (I haven't seen the show in a while, do they still do that? Because at the time, I had never seen anyone say anything) and the crowd went "awwwwww"

And the funny thing? My sister was throwing a fit a little while earlier because she didn't want to see the Sword in the Stone show... she wanted to go on the Pinocchio ride.

We still have the scroll Merlin gave her, the medal, and a picture of her pulling the sword out.

I stand by my theory that Merlin hides in Bermuda all year, but it gets too hot in the Summer so he goes to Anaheim.
