    Park hours extended tonight 1/9/09

park hours have been extended from 10Pm tonight to 11 Pm tonight due to higher than expected crowds. Chime in, do you think this will just pass in a week or two or is this early indication of how powerful this promotion is really going to be. Discuss!

I think we need to wait until next week when most schools are back in session to really be able to judge that. If it's still as packed as it's been - then it would seem the promotions are being successful.

I think this will pass after MLK weekend. Apparently a lot of kids are still out of school and most colleges also are not back in yet.

I sure saw a lot or people wearing the Birthday stickers yesterday. And it felt awfully crowded for a cool winter's mid-week January day.

Re: Park hours extended tonight 1/9/09

I remember Friday nights in October or November when the hours were extended from 11 to midnight. So this type of thing has happened before.

Bear in mind too that there are some schools out there (including mine) that are still on holiday until Monday the 12th or later, which could contribute to higher than expected attendance.

Re: Park hours extended tonight 1/9/09

Crowds were definitely still around today as the LA Unified schools were still out. Here's a shot of the strollers next to the Monorail entrance...

But I'd have to say that I also heard Birthday banter today up the wazoo. I really think this promotion is going to take off. Especially if the AP holders can get a good chunk of their money back on their birthday. When you attach "free" to anything, generally you can plan to stand back and watch a mob form. In Dinsey's case, it might be too much of a good thing.

a friend of mine who just got home from the parks (they left because it was so crowded) said there are lots of birthday buttons/stickers to be seen, and from the chitchat of people in line to buy tickets, lots of people signing up for the month to month AP payment plans

We are here right now and it has been an odd night. We got here at 7 and since then Pirates, Indy, Splash, Buzz and Space Mtn have all been closed at some point. With Fireworks and Fantasmic cancelled along with no parade and major rides closed the park seems crowded. Just walked by Indy and the line is 30 minutes. The weird thing is that the Nemo line was only 25 minutes. It is super windy and we have seen lots of security. Weird. In line for Space now and it is 30.
