I don't know if anyone on here witnessed this, but around 8:50 p.m. this evening (Friday) inside the loading station for Space Mountain a cast member accidentally fell on to the track while an oncoming vehicle nearly struck him, stopping just 2 feet in front of him.
It was a scary thing to witness, I just about saw the whole thing happen. It appeared as if he either held on to a dispatched vehicle and he lost his balance and literally fell on to his back on the center part of the track. I don't think he got caught on anything because there is nothing on the back that looked as it could have pulled him down.
A lot of people saw it happen, and a few people actually screamed thinking that he was going to be crushed by the next car. I praise Disneyland's superb emergency system that went off in an instant, all the lights turned on and the vehicles stopped on a dime. He was 2 seconds away from what could have been a fatal accident.
The cast member is okay though, he got up and it looked like his back was hurting from the fall. The entire ride was evacuated, and they handed out several readmission passes. Shortly after 10 pm Space Mountain re-opened, and i was glad to see the cast member at the entrance taking fast passes and he was quite chipper.
I'm glad he was alright and is very lucky. A few years ago a similar incident happened at Six Flags Magic Mountain on Revolution, but that actually ended in the death of an employee. I believe he or she crossed the track when an oncoming train hit her.
Just glad to see everything turned out okay.
