Re: The Return of Big Thunder Barbeque

Are you sure it is returning in full service form? I haven't read up on it lately, but I was understanding it to be where all the reserved celebrations would be taking place. I guess Disney isn't giving us much help for what they tell us...

Celebration Roundup and Barbecue at Big Thunder Ranch
Mosey into a fanciful frontier environment where we're ready for whatever you're celebrating! Frolic and play at a festive party featuring a full family-style spread of lip-smackin' BBQ chicken and ribs with all the fixin's. Goodie bags, sippy cups for the young-uns, and a special out-of-the-box surprise tops off a day destined to be a magical memory (available Spring 2009)
I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

then 10 seconds later you’d be playing like you were best friends?"

When I ate there aroune 2000, I ate the most delicious Disney chocolate cake. It had like 5 layers of cake and icing....My sugar count is soaring just thinking about it. But it was YUMMY!!!

My father was just talking about this place a week ago! I had to run downstairs to tell my mother that they're returning.

I noticed the signs this past weekend. If the menu is anything like French Market then the food will be outstanding. My concern isn't so much the food quality, but the quantity and price that will accompany it.

Actually it was one of the most popular restaurants in the park. The line to get in was usually around 20-40 minutes. It was by far the best food in the park at the time. The portions were huge, delicious, and the prices weren't too outrageous.

Oh I hope it's returning for good as an eatery and not just for promotional reasons. Why do I get the idea that there are terms or conditions involved? Like it may be returning for parties or celebrations?

Re: The Return of Big Thunder Barbeque

I look forward to it's return, hopefully it's good...what about a barbecue beans chili bar? Could have add-ons like freshly shredded cheese, steak, onions, extra barbecue sauce, and come with bread and a salad. That's the only idea I'd have....if the menu is the same or similar, might not even need that. Good news indeed, here's hoping it's not just a location to allow the "celebrate" junk in, but a full-service place

Re: The Return of Big Thunder Barbeque

I somehow get a sketchy feeling that there's some gimmick involved? But hey, if they have signs that say "bring your appetites", I'll do it. Or I'll head to taste pilots grill if they're too packed.

Edit: i think it will be a gimmick. Anytime someone uses the word "magical" to describe a frontierland bbq, something ain't right.

Re: The Return of Big Thunder Barbeque

I certainly hope this is going to be open all the time and not just for special occasion rentals...

They didn't have to advertise too much, word got around fast that they were open - I usually had people approaching me and asking me where it was, and I'm not a CM...

(Hey, the Tourists can always spot the Regulars in a crowd, when you know your way around like you live there. Because you DO... )

The portions were very generous for the price, it was always good and usually great, and the atmosphere was nice. And the way the serving line was set up (Pay first, then pickup your sides and drinks and cold stuff, then the entree and hot stuff last) you had a chance of sitting down and eating while it was still hot. Try that in a Buffeteria where you wait in a 15-minute line to pay as your Dinner gets colder, and colder, and colder...

They had a real smokehouse in the "Barn" behind the restaurant, and that BBQ was slow cooked for 10 to 12 hours, then they finished it off before serving. Comes out Real Good that way.

Though the decomposed granite sand on the ground meant the "Three Second Rule" is flat out. You drop it, it's gone. (They have since paved the area with slurry-seal asphalt, but the above still applies.)

When discussing the merits of good BBQ it should be considered "musical" and not "magical"... as in "Them beans hit the spot" followed by fun sounds and foul notes/smells!

No idea what the "problem" was. It certainly was not from lack of customers. The place was never "out of smell."
With food that has to be made prior to someone ordering it, there has to be a guess as to how much to make per hour. Too inaccurate a guess either way and there will be trouble, either with irate customers wanting the unavailable pork ribs or with the sharp pencil boys for wasting too many pork ribs.
