Re: Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Episode 4 A New Hope

Good afternoon, I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but in the " A night on Bald Mountain" segment from Fantasia, there is a ghost who looks similar to the ballroom wraiths. I can't recall the time index, but I recognized the shrouded specter in a crowd of phantoms.

Some of you HM fans might be interested in this little bit of info that was recently posted at Cartoon Brew:

Alan Coats, the son of legendary Disney background painter Claude Coats, has started a website about his father’s work at ClaudeCoats.com Right now, the site is mainly a storefront that sells giclée prints of Coats’ personal paintings, some of which are quite attractive. I hope Alan eventually fleshes it out with more family photos, personal ephemera, and career details as well.

thank you for those screenshots, HBG2. I have just seen two versions of "A Night On Bald Mountain" on youtube. There is an 8:12 version with the wraith also showing up at 2:11, 2:13, 2:28, and 2:37. The second version is 8:30 with the wraith showing up at, 1:42, 1:44, 1:50, and 2:08 through 2:10.

Um, I'm sure GRD would know something about this, but it's looks like the bust at WDW is somewhat deformed? Maybe when it was pulled it warped or something... or is it just me?

Its not deformed, its just taken from a closer angle. And did you ask Shanes permission before posting that photo of him?

Really? Wow, the bust's forehead looks completely shrunken; the photograph is displayed publicly over at Facebook | Haunted Mansion

Re: Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Episode 4 A New Hope

A lot of the humor in the HM is macabre, of course. It's always been a good strategy to deal with the frightening possibility of violent death by joking about it. The HM is doing nothing unique here.

Curiously, some of the specific jokes the HM chooses to make have already been made elsewhere in Disneyland, and more curious still, sometimes very close by the HM. For example, take the grisly prospect of being eaten alive by crocodiles. Pretty specific. Well, you can get jokes about getting chomped by hungry crocs over at the Jungle Cruise just as easily as from the stretching portrait of the Tightrope Gal.

But that's not the most glaring example. What about this joke?

Again, very specific. Have you ever noticed that this same basic joke has been made continuously at Disneyland from very early on, and distant from this painting by a matter of yards?

No, of course you haven't noticed it before. That's why you need the Threads.

I'm not aware of any quicksand jokes outside the HM, though.

Re: Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Episode 4 A New Hope

I've just read the first thread and I am halfway through the second thread, and it seems to me that there is speculation that a certain "apparition" might come back, and what he could look like... so I was thinking the same thing in 2004 when I drew this... ( the bride and the attic jumpers were drawn later)

As in, every ghost in the Haunted Mansion is crazy? I'd say so.

I'm not sure what you mean by the Hat Box Ghost being on display in the attic for the 40th. So far, no HBG.

The hope is that he will be back for the merch event on 09-09-09. That's where the title of this thread comes from.
