    Pirates Lair theme continues

There has been rumors for the Pirates of the Caribbean film
franchise will continue with the forth movie to be released
within the next few years. If the film is given approval into
being created, will Tom Sawyer Island continue to have the
Pirates Lair theme? Or will the theme be taken down and be
brought back once there is an official announcement that the
film has been given the greenlight to be created and released?

Or maybe there's a reason why that the Pirates Lair theme
continues to be on Tom Sawyer Island.

Please elaborate your thoughts and/or answers.

I'd say, sadly, regardless of a forth movie we're stuck with the overlay on the island. They added all the stuff, they're not just going to rip it out and add it back in or anything....we're stuck with it until Disney decides it's not popular or won't sell any more merchandise. At this point, another film has likely zero effect on what they do with TSI.

I seem to remember hearing the fourth installment would center solely around Captain Jack. And the rest of the cast would not be involved.

Okay, thank you for your respones.

So, in generall, was the reaction to
Pirates Lair positive? If so, then why
haven't the phases for the theming
    of the island continued?

The key issue is...Disneyland I am sure has seen a drop in Pirates merchandise they buy, and island numbers aren't what they were in terms of visitors. People still visit...but there aren't huge lines like when it opened, and they've been cutting all live entertainment (Jack, the stunt show, the Bootstrappers) from the island....so it's pretty unlikely unless they decide the franchise will move more units of merch that they update it in the near future at all. The same with the "proposed" second wave of ride additions (Keira and Orlando), which I am very glad we won't be seeing.

    Talk about overkill.

Was it also true that there
was going to be a possible
    addition of the Tia Dalma
    character right at the
    bayou scene?

    Re: Pirates Lair theme continues

Personally, I like the Pirate's Lair re-theme to TSI. The Island was always the one place in DL where I felt the most free as a kid. It was a great adventure exploring the caves and paths. Keep in mind though; when I was a kid, there were still some kid friendly western movies and TV shows. Most of the western movies and shows in the last 20 years have been gritty, more true to life, and for the most part R rated (Think Unforgiven, Young Guns, Deadwood). Kids today have no adventurous western influences to reflect on if they were to visit the old version of TSI. I don't think they would get it the way I did as a kid. The new island theme keeps the adventurous spirit alive for today's kids IMHO. The plussing was fun for me too. I love the re-done injun Joe's cave and the live show was pretty good when we saw it 2 yrs ago.

Overall, I think that it was a good idea to plus the island. I would like to see them do something with the fort. It has sat closed long enough.

Albeit I think they went a bit overboard on the pirate theming of TSI, you must remember that Tom & Huck played pirates often in their stories so if you know your literature, it's not too far fetched for some pirate theming there.

That was offered and countered and offered and countered in the many TSI to PL debates a while back. You're welcome to accept that very thin connection for the theme switch if you like, I thought it was pretty weak personally.

The island got lots of attention when the re-theme (its not an overlay, they re-themed the island) first opened, mostly because it was something new to see. None of what they did, however, was good enough to hold the crowds and now island attendance appears to be about what it was before they spent all that time and money on the changes.

I agree with what was said previously...a 4th movie being done or not will not have much affect on the island IMO. The time and $$$ spent on it means we will be stuck with it for a long time. This is why you don't make major theme changes to stuff based on fads. Because when the fad fades, as they all do, you are stuck with it.

Let's not forget there was originally going to be a phase two of island construction, which would apparently involve the back half of the island. Seems like they once again kind of shrugged their shoulders and walked away. Naturally, there's the possibility the upcoming fourth film could reignite that process, but I really doubt it.

Despite the budget cuts and low
attendence to the island, the Pirates
Lair theme could continue to it's
    following phases as planned.

The only reason this could happen
though as if the fourth film does happen.
With the new movie on it's way the popularity
of Pirates will be back thus giving the reason
to continue the retheme on the island.

That's not necessarily true. If the 4th movie somehow is good enough to recreate the Pirate fad that sweapt folks, it could inject more pirate life into TSI...but IMO the fad has dwindled (been over milked?) enough that I don't see the PotC film franchise having the kind of longevity of say the Star Trek or Harry Potter franchises (just examples). I guess time will tell, but I think unless PotC #4 is some kind of super blockbuster I don't see any more Pirate phases hapening at the island.

You're right. The fourth film would
have to be a mega hit in order
to give the go ahead with the next
    phases.

And since it is a fading fad, it's a shame
    that we're stuck with it.
