Disneyland stores seem to have more Winnie the pooh items than Mickey?
Also, disney stores and disney catalogs have less and less Mickey merchandise. Is Mickey being devalued?

It seems like Disney pushes Tink more than either. But I say Pooh by far.
Yes, tinkerbell is wonderful. Thank you for noticing her brilliance.
Pooh and his friends are by far the best selling icons in the entire Disney merchandising realm. It is a shame, really. If the company returned to making some Mickey Mouse shorts (films that is, not pants) he could be as popular again as Sponge Bob in no time.
But alas. Disney has decided that Mickey isn't hip or edgy enough (or cute and cudly enough, as in the case of Pooh) so they won't promote him as anything more than a company logo.
Dream big. Do what you love.
I wouldnt say de-valued as much as I think Mickey might be the only thing Disney Execs take seriously. When I think of the Disney Co. overall animated films and Disneyland are among the last things that come to mind. ABC, ESPN, Corporate Governance, Board Independance, Walt vs. Roy family Fued, Stock Price, Failed Internet Ventures, Cheap Direct to Video Sequal, Firing animators, Maintaining DIS as a growth company... sadly seem to take much more preccedence than the root of the business that made it so successfull in the first place. But it might be that Mgnt has their heads on tight when it come to the realization that it was all started by a mouse and thus have kept the gates locked in regards to Mickeys exploitation. Mickey is after all the most powerful brand they have and a dilution could spell catastrophy for the whole fold of Disney companies (wanted or unwanted). If Mickey is scarce there will be more demand for all things Him!Originally Posted by Tink Wink
There was a big story about this a couple of years ago...they'd said they realized how little they pushed mickey anymore and were going to make a strong stand with it...I'm not sure that even attempts really materialized. They'll constantly admit Pooh is #2 but it's pretty blatant they don't say they're dropping mickey from #1.
House of Mouse I guess placed mickey back in kids faces with newer stuff, and I guess that's good. When it comes to winnie the pooh though, kids are still eating up the many adventures of winnie the pooh cartoons. I was watching them a few weeks ago and realizing wow, they really made pooh a cute cuddly ole bear in this.
I hope a lot of parents buy these Mickey Mouse collection DVDs that have been coming out. Those were really great to watch growing up on the Disney Channel.
I certainly have noticed this.
I am usually looking for Donald Duck and I find ten times more Winnie the Pooh stuff! I even find more Eyeore and Kanga stuff!
However, Forbes ranks Mickey and Co. #1 and Pooh #2:

Although Pooh is a favorite, Mickey is the one everyone wants at Disneyland. Little kids don't go to Disneyland and rush to critter counrty to see pooh, but lots run to toontown to meet the big cheese.
But I have to agree with the people who said that the princesses and tinkerbell are marketed more than pooh and mickey combined!
The characters go through phases. Mickey was the biggest selling character until the Pooh characters were pushed. Next, it seemed like the Princesses were the big push, and now it looks like Tinkerbelle is the big character. And as that old saying goes, what goes around, comes around...so I think Mickey will be back in the number one spot again eventually (ok, maybe I'm a little biased since Mickey is, and always will be #1 in my eyes
).
At this time, it seems like Pooh is more popular. I'm sure that will change.
All I know is that there is never enough Donald Duck stuff...

I love pooh and would rather have his stuff then mickey. My oldest would like some dopey stuff. Hard to find all three of his shirt's are adult small. Were are the kids size? He also would take mickey over any other. Now my youngest is stich all the way.
There is a new Mickey Mouse animation coming out for Playhouse Disney aimed at little kids featuring the Fab Five and their supporting characters based on education etc. I think this may be a sneaky way in getting Mickey n Co back into the zeitgeist.

Our house defintely prefers Mickey! My oldest went through a Pooh phase when he was around a year, but my youngest has NEVER liked Pooh. The both love Mickey though and they LOVE House of Mouse. I would like to see less Pooh stuff also

I remember a number of years ago Pooh was leading Mickey in sales. However, it seems that as of 2003, Mickey's regained the lead.

Mickey: $5.8 billion
Pooh: $5.3 billion
What's not clear if those numbers refer to sales of JUST Mickey Mouse merchandise and JUST Winnie the Pooh merchandise, or if by saying "character franchises" they're including the whole Micky and Friends crew (Donald, Goofy, Plute, Chip and Dale, etc.) and/or all of the Hundred Acre Woods residents.
