Facade Lighting Does More Than Train Rainbows

As Master Gracey reported in the Dateline Disneyland report, the Small World Facade now has lighting on it at night which changes color as the Disneyland Railroad passes through it.

As I was investigating the progress of the ride so close to reopening, the clock began to go off, and I realized that there is also a subtle light show which corresponds with the Clock going off! Enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http:...?v=9KJ6wc7Lt18

Unfortunately I was never able to get better view from the front due to time, but hopefully this gives you an idea of how neat it looks!

Some of the toy soldiers from when the clock goes off are still missing... conspicuously.

The "Hello" room is already restored to its non Holiday form.

I like how now there's two soldiers missing instead of just the one (yes I know its still technically not open). Not to sound demented or anything, but if you could flicker between the orange, yellow, and red colors just right you could make a really effective fire illusion!

These new lights appear to be an impressive work. They add a whole new dimension to the icon, whimsical facade.

Re: Facade Lighting Does More Than Train Rainbows

I still crack up remembering the year I was there for the transformation from Holiday to regular IASW. They were testing the clock and the doll parade. Only thing is, the doors center front would not stay open and kept slamming back into the next doll's face. "its a world of SMACK-ter a world of SMACK its a world of SMACK and a world of SMACK there's so much that we SMACK that its time we're a-SMACK its a Small World SMACK-ter All"

I like the new lighting a lot. Is it LED based? Or have they just added lots of controls to the already present floodlight system and beefed it up?

Re: Facade Lighting Does More Than Train Rainbows

I'll have to look, but probably LED based judging from the color fade rather than a switch - that's how they did the entire Castle. They are getting fancy Phillips now has a LED rope light with 60 or 150 LED's spaced every 4" and every single lamp in each string can be individually addressed with DMX computer lighting control protocol.

You could string a bunch of these down the side of the building and turn it into an instant message sign... Give them a few more years, and it will be fast enough for full video. Or string them permanently around the borders of the Small World facade like they install the christmas lights, and have that same rainbow effect happen with point source lamps.
