Oh man it sounds like the soundtrack is going to be switched around!
Alright, I'm not really an "omg don't change that" guy but the soundtrack itself was half the experience for me. When the original score was written, synthesizers were still a fairly new musical instrument and people were still experimenting with them. I think this is mostly why the parade's original score is as unique and quirky as it is. In a sense, It's like some sort of testament to the history of music in a way, and I'm really bummed to hear that it's going to be changed.
So it goes.
NNNOOOOOO!!! But still, keep in mind that these are rumors and may not happen. Remember in the before time, in the long long ago, when the parade was still in Disneyland. Dumbo was there alongside with the Dwarf Mine unit. They're probably not going to take them out, I mean why can't they just add the parade floats and keep the rest the way it is? But as for the music... NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!
This is one of those cases in which we should all consider:
What would Walt Do?
We've already experienced a classic. We all got the chance to experience it once more and take it in. Now it's time that we see some change in this parade. Rather than taking it away, their improving it and changing it. This is extremely Disney-like and welcomed on my part. We should be thankful their not taking it away altogether. I also don't mind it if they change the music to Tokyo's Dreamlights... I find that their music is less prone to give you a god-awful headache.
The part that the bluesky article omits is the return of the Pleasure Island unit. I'm sure that because of that, plus the returned Diamond Mine unit from the Snow White unit, the Circus unit had to be retired. We all know that nowadays, if you add something new (or revitalized), something old must be removed. It's a 1 for 1 exchange. Granted, ALL of these parts were present in the MSEP up until 1996, but times and budgets have changed.
Please consider the environment before printing useless emails
Good riddance to the clowns, bur the rest makes me a little sad.
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
This is going to be such a hot topic! This not a rumor Folks this is indeed has been confirmed by Disney but has not been released to the general public. The entertainment folks, who i know very personally have all been told that the Blue Fairy, and Dumbo units will not return the beloved california classic. They will indeed update the parade, with Tinkerbell and her friends opening the parade, and Snow White and her Dwarfs will also have a new unit. The Music will be changed to Tokyo Disneyland's Dreamlights hence omitting floats we do not have like the Swan Unit, Toy Stoy and Bugs Life ect.... Im very sad to see the grand marshall go away the Blue Fairy is like the signature float for the electrical parade. But times change and so does the world. Disney is trying to "update" stuff to keep with the times. Remember folks what they did in 1996? When they took away the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade and tried to replace it with Dancing Pixies in a Streetacular? People were not that happy!. But i mean you have to admit the parade is a classic and people do not adapt well to change, especially when it comes to tinkering with their Classic Electrical parade!. Im sure the new parade will be colorful and vibrant the music will take a while to get used to but, at least we will still have the Electrical parade!. They were even talking about taking it away and shipping it to Hong Kong Disneyland for a while. So just be happy that were lucky to still have it around after all these years.
I could live with the physical changes -- even though I love the circus float -- but I'd be sick with disgust if they change the soundtrack. It simply wouldn't be the same parade. The music is too tied to the parade to take it out. It'd be like taking out "Yo Ho!" or "Grim Grinning Ghosts" from their respective attractions. You can't do it and still maintain the same emotional tie to people. It then becomes just another parade. I am all for changes -- even ones I don't always want to see -- but changing the song crosses even my line.
I have to admit that as much as I LOVE MSEP I really loved Spectromagic at WDW last year. I never thought anything could take the place of MSEP and I am glad we have it on tape and that our son got to see it at least once - although he was barely 3 at the time.
I wouldn't have as much heartburn about it being replaced if it was with Spectromagic. But why alter a classic?
