It's not the same, without the Main Street vehicles!

I know that it's not like losing the Haunted Mansion or IASW when they are down for refurb.

I know that they are, in the old parlance, "A" ticket attractions, that many of you have never even taken part in.

And I guess it's not like losing a parade, or a fireworks show or such.

And I know that they'll be back, and that Main Street needs repaving.

But I think since they are gone for the moment, I realized last weekend just how much the horsedrawn streetcar, omnibus, and the other vehicles add to the ambience of Main Street, USA during the early part of the day.

The LA Times won't be calling Al Lutz over this, and it won't rate five threads with 200 posts each.

I just thought it was time that the vehicles, and their place in the park, got recognized here.

Absolutely! Walt knew full well that such small attractions as the Main Street Vehicles really didn't make the company any money. However, they more then made up for their expense by adding to his overall show.
"JESUS!!! That's Cold!" -- Walt Disney's final words.

"You hear people talk about, 'I don't think Walt would like this,' or 'I don't think Walt would like that.' You have no idea what Walt would want! No clue whatsoever! Because the people that worked with him day in and day out didn't know what Walt wanted. Walt didn't know what he wanted 'til he wanted it."
-- Randy Thornton, Walt Disney Records

If they had flying horses this wouldn't be such a big problem.

    Then there's Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang buses ...

I always look forward to taking a trip down Main Street in at least one of these vehicles during my trips to Disneyland. In fact, I try to ride as many different ones as I can. I believe on my most recent trip it was the fire truck. When I remember, I ask the driver to take my photo. They have yet to turn me down.

Love that picture, Barbaraann! Indeed, the vehicles are an integral part of Main Street's theming and experience.

I'll be glad when the Main Street paving project is over and they are back on the road.

I like the Main Street vehicles and it doesn't seem like Disneyland without them. Small kids usually get a kick out of them too.

When will the repaving be finished?
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I miss them too. And the beautiful horses that pull the street cars.

And this is what the street looked like just before the paving project started. Kinda lonely and deserted.

And then the boxes went up

You know what Barry, your ABSOLUTELY right.

On our last 2 visits to Disneyland I sensed something was "off" on Main Street, other than the walls everywhere. And that's exactly what it is.

Of course, on Sunday we didn't go any further into the park than the Frontierland Train Station and the Hub.

I wish they ran the vehicles at times where Main Street wasn't clogged with people waiting for parades or fireworks. I always get there in the afternoons and it seems that they stop operating around then.

I love riding on top of the Omnibus! I'd miss it if I were there, but, I won't be for a few months.

This subject brings back great memories of the 50th celebration when there was "golden vehicles".
