So last night was one of those rare occasions where several of my favorite things in the universe converged in two wonderful hours at Disneyland:
1) I love the rain, and living in Southern California, it's become more of a rarity in the past few years.
2) I love taking night shots, but with three kids, my opportunities are limited
3) The kids went to grandma's again last night, and I had I had the night to myself.
4) My kids are also some of my favorite things in the universe, but they didn't converge, hence my ability to grab my camera, and my umbrella, and head to Disneyland.
First of all, it was only raining lightly when I arrived at the park, but it was breezy and I knew I couldn't maneuver my Nikon, a tripod, and an umbrella all at the same time. So I decided to give my new point-and-shoot a try. It's a Panasonic Lumix LX3 and I've been waiting for an opportunity to try out it's night shooting capabilities. I gotta say, it's not too bad for a point and shoot. I couldn't shoot in RAW, because iphoto and lightroom don't really support it yet for this camera, but for walking around jpegs, I was rather pleased. Here's a higher res shot of IASW as a sample...
So all of the shots in this thread were taken without a tripod, holding the camera in one hand, and my umbrella in the other, which was a good thing as it began coming down in sheets after I was in the park.
Going back to the beginning of my night, I parked in Downtown Disney and made my way in past the Rainforest Cafe...
past World of Disney...
...to a nearly deserted Esplanade.
No one was in line at this time of night in the rain, and I walked right in...
There were still quite a few brave souls trudging around Main Street when I entered, but for the most part, the park had really started to empty out. I got in just before 9:30, and the announcement was just being made that there would be no Fantasmic Showing. One of the main reasons I wanted to get to the park during the rain was to catch the reflection off of the rainy pavement. So I lost no time and promptly snapped off about 400 shots, only a fraction of which I'll post here. As soon as I was in, I worked my way down Main Street...
Until I got to the hub....
where I made a left turn, and headed into Frontierland....
