Re: About Walt's Apartment (On top of the Fire House)

Many people think of the apartment as a kind of museum, and while that's true in a way, it's also misleading. A museum is something people can tour, but it's also roped off and prepared for tourists.

The apartment is in it's original condition, with the exception of pieces that were taken by Lillian after Walt's death and replaced with replicas. It's a real place where real people did, and do, spend time. Today it's used as a sort of "green room" for the Candlelight narrator each year. Certain VIP guests are shown the apartment on tours, and it is also shown to CM's on special occasions (I had the privilege of presenting a Main Street Candy Palace CM with his 25 year service pin in the apartment once.) As far as tours open to the public, it is now restricted to only those on the ABD "backstage magic" tour.

    Hope that helps!

    ^^^^^

    THE lamp.

But like I said, I think it was a PR stunt/urban legend...

We saw her at the Park a few months back. Her daughter was with her. I guess I should have asked her if it was true!

So what's this college program all about? That's interesting how they let those students get to see it.

almost. the carpet was replaced early in 2005 due to the roof leaking, and subsequent water damage.

Yes, MANY pieces in the apartment are replacements, and the carpet was replaced (If you want to see what the carpet looks like, catch a ride on the Lilly Belle). Heck even the lamp (yes, THE lamp) has been replaced. Presumably it had to be unplugged when it was switched out. Speaking of the lamp, I wouldn't get too caught up in the idea that it's some kind of eternal flame. Light bulbs do burn out.

Cool Re: About Walt's Apartment (On top of the Fire House)

I wish I could go in. Too bad I'm young, broke and with only small connections to the land.

Book the Backstage Magic tour through Adventures by Disney. It's a trip of a lifetime for us Disney fans. Seeing his apartment was very special. To look out the window, where the lamp (replica) sits, is honestly chilling. Everyone got a little misty-eyed when we were there. Can't explain it!

Could that have been Robbie? Great guy. I'm pretty sure he retired. I wonder how many CMS have 25 years these days?

I have comcast cable. On "ON DEMAND" under the Disney travel section they run a show called Disney Fact or Fiction. On one of the episodes they take you inside Walts Appartment. If you have Cable you could search for it. It's well done. Thats' the closest I'll ever get.

Re: About Walt's Apartment (On top of the Fire House)

A while ago, someone posted a link to an OC Register 360 tour of Walt's Apartment. I believe it's still up here:

    The Orange County Register

It's the closest most of us will get to being there!
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?
