Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

I think if they are going to make a statue of Oswald then it would probably in a small version... like the Dumbo or Chip & Dale ones in the Hub at DL. Since the entrance of the redesigned DCA will be set for the 20-30's then the Alice comedies, Oswald and Mickey would all be things people of that time would know Walt Disney for...

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

Idea, but what if they had Walt and Vintage Mickey in the center, and then in mini-statues around them were all the other characters from around that time? Like Alice, Dippy Dawg, Vintage Minnie, Pegleg Pete, etc.

Anyway, I hope that larger statue happens.

Again, lets go straight with the Mickey that children will recognize. I know quite a few children who don't have a clue that Steamboat Willie is Mickey.

Disney is obviously banking on the infusion of Disney characters to sell the Games of the Boardwalk. It might work, too. I doubt there will ever be queues for the new pay-per-play games, but the CMs working them might not be entirely bored out of their minds after they reopen.

I think Disney needs to drop the price and give away Disney prizes in order to keep the games in business. The generic, florescent colored animal plush that they used to give out is the same crap that county fairs give out at the same games that they charge less to play. If Disney wants to make their version of the midway game appealing, it needs to be unique. I think they're making the right decision by making the games Disney-character related, but they need to make the prizes Disney, too.

As for the new facades, my excitement for them is because they are exceedingly better than any other facade on Paradise Pier when it opened in 2001. The new facades look great, and aesthetics are important for DCA... too long has that park looked cheap.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

I've added a new entry for King Triton's Carousel with the new info from Blue Sky Disney's blog post yesterday 3/8 about the plussing of the attraction:
King Triton's Carousel plussing
Details: Previous plans to build new Victorian-styled roof structure over carousel have been delayed due to cost. New plans call for minor re-theming and "plussing" including new paint job and new canopy cover while attraction undergoes refurbishment and technical upgrades.
Project Status: In progress. Began March 9.
Completion Date: May 20, 2009

Blue Sky Disney 3/8: A TOUGH CarouSELL...
Hopefully you rode King Triton's Carousel lately, because it goes down tomorrow for a couple months of refurb. Are they going to be putting that beautiful cover that you saw on display at the Blue Sky Cellar?

No, they're not.

It is getting a makeover, but that elaborate roof that was originally planned has been put aside for now. WDI and the Suits have decided that the money they were going to allocate to this project will be put to better use going in attractions. Now, as much as I want to see that beautiful roof over KTC , I'd rather see it put into making an attraction better and more detailed in theming. Also, this doesn't mean it isn't getting anything. There will be a new canopy put atop that will blend in with Midway Mania far better, some new technical electronics for safety concerns and the area is supposed to be repainted to match the look of the new boardwalk area as well.

The cutbacks on the pier, specifically the most recent one, Triton's Carousel, are all understandable. I would rather make a great ride that is being planned live up to its true potential(TLM, RSR) than have just one piece of decor look good. And it is a plus on both sides, depending on the way you look at it. I've always thought Triton's looks a little weird next to TSMM, and now they are still fixing it, no matter what it will look like in the end. Although we know it will be better than what was there before in some shape or form. Now, they better bring on the Ariel AA Hair, or I won't be pleased!

Yeah that's what I acknowledged in my previous post as being the most likely destination for Oswald if he does end up seeing the light of day. The only way to make Oswald "relevant" would be to increase his visibility. Hey its another opportunity for plush!

I would hope Disney would be a bit more creative to actually make the games an EXPERIENCE attraction and not just another way to try to extract parent's $5ers from their wallet. To make the games something more then something people just do more then once.. Disney could really be creative.

The biggest point is to not look at the games as a revenue stream.. but rather an attraction. If one does not make that distinction I think they are doomed to fail yet again. Sure they will be a better looking failure.. but so much of DCA was already that. A good looking thing no one was interested in.

Hope someone is listening over there in Disney think-tank land...

I don't think we can consider Triton's Carousel a cutback. In fact, I think this is actually an addition to phase 1 because Disney never announced anything would be happening to the Carousel and were quick to point out that what was shown in the model at the Cellar did not represent what would be done during this phase. Anyway, I'm also glad that they're doing something to make it fit in better, as long as it doesn't look out of place and garish I'm fine with a canopy even though obviously the strcuture would be preferable.

I agree, they need make it an attraction, or have prizes that don't feel like you're being ripped off.

Then that makes the pier around the Fun Wheel, not considered a cutback.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

Well, except that the boardwalk was not specifically noted as not being included by the Cellar staff as well as also shown in virtually every rendering of that area and widely reported by insiders that it was suppose to happen. The only place the Carousel was ever shown was in the model, which has been explained to be conceptual and not the final design. I think there's a difference.

I have a feeling that people will be more attracted to them after the retheme. The games before were very generic and the prices were nothing to desire.

The new theme of the games might relate better to guests and the prices are suppose to reflect the theme of the game. Disney fans as well as many of the guests might be more easily convince to pay a couple bucks for the chance of winning a Disney themed plush.

Actually the toys story midway mania building is behind the queue of the attraction it is not behind the the games of the boardwalk. There is a large parade building behind the boardwalk games. That parade building could very well be relocated in the future and allow the area to be used for another show building. If they did that they would most likely use the nicely done game facades and game area as queue.

Oswald will be represented in one of the new additions at the entrance.
