That might be true. It is right next to the route 66 shop, so I guess it fits in...sorta...

...but it's still ugly.

That may be, but Animal Kingdom's Dino-Rama (an entire land made out of the tacky dino concept) is a thematically-accurate tribute to Route 66 roadside attractions, but is still an innappropriate addition to that otherwise beautiful park.

You know when I look at concept art for paradise peir I think the whole idea was tacky regardless of budget cuts too bad we never got the flume ride originally planned though......

true but Dino-rama is a fictional parking lot fair that supposedly has set up shop. Very similair to the carnivals that used to roam from one town to the other. The idea is very diferent from what they were trying to accomplish in DCA. In Dino-Rama the whole dinosuar theme was chosen because of the location where the mini land was built.

DCA was pretty much designed with the whole south western area as a eclectic collection of iconic buildings from around the state with little regard to creating a coehisive theme to them.
You have the Dome which was one of several structures that were in the plans to create a small village showcasing the states many contributions to industry. You have a small section depicting route 66 with the Dino, the cheesy corndog castle depicting the many mom and pop eateries that were along route 66 and the souvenir shop which has some miniature icons also seen on route 66 like the large tower on its roof.

Then you have Mullholland madness which combined the amusement theme with a play on a famous road and of course on the opposite

To a certain degree they did get one thing right and that is to have the symbolic route 66 end near a pier similiar to the original route 66.

Overall the whole northern edge was the worst section designed section of the park.

Here are the dinos i was talking about.

It's interesting to note that the symbolic Route 66 will be moved from near Paradise Pier to Carsland.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

Thanks for that info Very interesting....

I wish they would rip that corner of that park and a new land. I think there's space. Maybe San Francisco'. I dont know, but they really need to do something. I hope they take it down sometime in Phase 2. They should save the money from the flight school and get rid of the whole thing. What a mess...DCA.....

I'm still really wondering why this progect was scrapped. I bring it up since I just visted WDW and wooden boardwalks and bridges can be found all around the place, and not just in places that were built long ago. I actually found a boardwalk queue in Primeval Whirl in Dino-Rama at AK of all places. If one of the cheapest looking coasters (though Mullholland probably tops it), in the cheapest area of that park can get wood for a bardwalk, all to support a questionalble roadside carnival theme, why can't the Funwheel get its? I was perfectly willing to go along with the "it's too expensive" explaination, but Primeval Whirl calls that into question for me.

Hey, Gertie is completely in theme Gertie became sort of an icon for the marvels of early movie making, not to mention animation. Also, I think that the themed ice cream parlor is very well done and lends to that area's atmosphere. It has a Route 66 feel to it, that's true, but that area it a heck of a lot classier than DCA's current Route 66. If DCA's theming can not only be brought up to the level of the front areas of DHS (Hollywood Blvd, Echo Lake, and Sunset Blvd), but surpass it, it will be an amazing park.

Edit: I see others have basically already said what I said, and were more detailed too I really should read every post before I respond...

I don't think expense really came into it other than they can get more bang for the buck if they transfer that money to another project. If they shift the money to another project to insure that the project is the best it can be, then I'm ok with a delay in the walkway around the fun wheel.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

The boardwalk may also have encroached too far upon World of Color. I'd imagine spray from the jets would get fairly unmanageable over there, depending on how close it came to whatever will be in the show.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

I never understood why Disney never took the Dino Theme to the next level? is that too much? other than the Dino Stuff over at WDW AK they could do a good job with Dino Theme somehwere at WDW or any oher theme park. Boys love Dinos.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker III

I think one Dino based area is enough. I just think they should fully explore the concept of past, living, and mythical creatures at DAK. I love that concept and I wish they'd give WDI the chance to really flesh it out and "complete" that park the right way.
