Why? Because it costs a lot (my guess, @$1M)

Yes, it definitely would be nice and it would have helped highlight the boardwalk aspect of the "new" PP. But it would be largely be cosmetic and I think it was thought that the effect could be pulled off by other effects.

Who? If I remember correctly, Al mentioned it in one of his updates.

they decided the budget for that would have been of more use for RSR. not canceled, just moved.

The Walt Disney Company makes around $43 billion a year from ALL their sales. And how could they not afford to pay $1 million? $1 million is like chump change for them

RocknGuitar, we don't know where the budget was moved, we just know that it was moved. Besides, nothing is ever cancelled, just put on hold indefinitely

My guess is that World of Color's equipment won't just rise out of the water and fix itself. Maybe, just a slight chance, that when/if they drain the pier again in some odd years, they will could add the boardwalk.

EDIT: Firebolt, there is a $1.1 billion budget. So if the boardwalk is one million then how many animations would that pay for in Little Mermaid or Radiator Springs Racers?

I believe it was moved to Mermaid. The cancellation of the Sci-Fi & Dine type place's budget was used to RSR.

DIS - The Walt Disney Company - Google Finance

For 2008 Disney's total revenue was $37.8 billion. That's revenue which means before payroll, before overhead, before bills, etc.

Total profit for 08 was $7.4 billion. The DCA project is a full 16.2% of the entire Disney companies yearly profit from last year. That is HUGE. Granted the money is actually loaned from banks and financed, but it represents nearly 1/5 of their total profit. That $7.4 billion gets spread up amongst all of their business ventures, animation, live action movies, radio, tv, studios, buildings, parks, print media, merchandise, stores, etc.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

What is RSR and how does a boardwalk have to do with this?

Goover, RSR is Radiator Springs Racers and they all share the same budget.

    Change in plans.

    Get used to it.

Nothing is set in stone until the foundations are poured!

All that chattering about the announced refurb to DCA a year ago was just that... Chattering. Some of the heated threads around here were pretty funny actually.

    And most were for not...

(kind of reminds me of the now infamous plasticware thread)

Yeah, tell that to the few dozen employees they'd have to lay off to spend that money on construction. Sorry, your kids may not eat this year, we really wanted a boardwalk!
The Mickey audience is not made up of people; it has no racial, national, political, religious or social differences or affiliations; the Mickey audience is made up of parts of people, of that deathless, precious, ageless, absolutely primitive remnant of something in every world-wracked human being which makes us play with children’s toys and laugh without self-consciousness at silly things, and sing in bathtubs, and dream and believe that our babies are uniquely beautiful. You know…the Mickey in us.

Just because it was cancelled, doesn't mean its cancelled forever. It'll get done in the future, just not during this phase.

Besides, how long did it take for the Haunted Mansion to get open from the time it the idea was conceived? It was delayed because of bigger things along the way (ex: World's Fair). It got built eventually, right?

    So in this case:

The boardwalk is to the Haunted Mansion
as the '64 World's Fair is to DCA's other large projects.

Okay, so the kids of construction workers and engineers won't eat then.

Give me a break, Disney should just build it, a million bucks is chump change for them.

This is how Disney sees it, if they don't build the boardwalk, no average guest will know that a boardwalk should be there. Now in the attractions, people will know where to add things.

Different times, and a different project altogether.

Building the Fun Wheel boardwalk would require the draining of Paradise Bay -- something I'm sure Disney will want to avoid for a very long time after World of Color debuts. The next time we'd probably see the possibility of getting the boardwalk built is when there's a major World of Color refurbishment that requires the Bay to be drained.

My guess is that a Fun Wheel boardwalk is something we won't ever see built.

How do you know the boardwalk would even cost a million dollars?
