Ha! Well said!
Actually, I always liked that you could see the Matterhorn from all over, it's one of the Disney icons. When I was growing up in California, whenever we made a trip to Disneyland, that was always what we looked for, you could see it from the highway, and that meant we were getting close! In fact, I was so sad when I went back after years and discovered that the highway system now hides the mountain from view. :-(
The story behind the sails is that when Disney started to use spotlights in one of their fireworks shows, one of the places that they put them on were on top of Pirates. But to hide them from the puublic, they put the sails up, which also makes it look like a dock in New Orleans is just over the buildings. I got this info from Jason Surrell's Pirates of the Carribean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies.
I love the sails ... the idea of the docks is pretty awesome, me thinks.
I think if there's any intrusion, it would be Space from Main Street. The trees have helped a bit I think, but other than that ... the mountain, the castle, all of the other things are somehow excusable.
The only sight I don't like seeing ... and this is going to sound odd ... is the Carrousel just beyond the Castle. It does a cool "twinkling light" thing at night (from a distance) but I've always felt that there should be something grander just beyond the moat ... what it would be, I have no idea.
Alas, seeing IASW from the PeopleMover always kind of weirded me out, too.
