    Old Matterhorn or New?

I really miss the old Matterhorn where you could see through the mountain and watch the Skyway buckets and the other Bobsleds. Sorry Harold, but I think it was a better ride.

    What do you think?

Yes, if they brought back the Skyway, I would enjoy it more than I do today.

But that is a big IF...

BTW- I voted for the old Matterhorn, but that is ONLY if the Skyway was operating again.

The poll is missing that qualifier.

Is the question refering to the old Matterhorn where there were no crystals or Abominable Snowman?

The old Matterhorn was basically a hollow shell, with no themed ice caves or Harold animatronics or anything. Those were added in...'78, I believe. The crystals were added in the 90s, after the removal of the Skyway.

    Re: Old Matterhorn or New?

What, they changed it? I had no idea...

D: All of the above. New Matterhorn, because the finished off interior really does help complete the illusion - but with the Skyway returned to service.

Make whatever modifications are needed to upgrade the Skyway for the 21st Century, including cars that can be put on a side track at the stations for Handicapped load and unload. (And redesigned stations with elevators at each end.)

Probably have to go with fully enclosed cars to satisfy the safety nannies, and mechanize the dispatch and station moves so the CM's aren't physically hosteling them through the building at each step. Let a CM push the green button, and an electric motor shoves the cabin onto the main rope and out the door.

And a "Tilt" switch, a smoke alarm and a VERY LOUD alarm horn in each car to stop the fools that would try to rock them or smoke in the cars, plus a camera and two-way intercom back to a control tower.

And don't be subtle about letting people know they can be monitored, and WILL be monitored if the tilt sensor or smoke alarm goes off.

(Record the video from every running car to a big DVR, and if something happens like the door "popping open" and a passenger "nearly falling out" they can figure out what really happened. Last time there was an incident like that the Guest managed to deliberately trip open the door latch in mid-ride.)

I vote "middle version"! Enclosed but with Skyway. Somewhere between '78 and '94.

Speaking as an old geezer who has been on both I definitely prefer the original Matterhorn but that's only because I like the behind-the-scenes look that the original version had. You could see across inside the mountain and see other tracks. It was really cool seeing the other bobsleds shooting around on the inside. And seeing the Skyway above you added to the experience. But, of course, the new version is definitely better themed. So for behind-the-scenes geeks I'd say the old one was better. The new one is better for everyone else.

By the way, If they changed it from "Meet Mr. Lincoln" to "Disassemble Mr. Lincoln" or at least "See Mr. Lincoln's internal workings" then I'd like the attraction way more. My guess is that most of the sane people would think otherwise.

    New.

I have never been a fan of the sky buckets.

Especially the poles in the middle of Fantasyland etc.

Question Re: Old Matterhorn or New?

Now I'm torn on this! (I'm so indecisive)

How old is old? I like the post-rehab Matterhorn with the ice, Harold, and skyway, but most posters are saying that "new" is post-skyway. That period between the rfurb and the removal of the skyway was best because it had the best of the original (rocks, the skyway, the big skyway holes with the awsome view) and the theming and enhanced fun of the 70s refurb. Which should I vote for, fellow Mice Chatters?

After getting out of your time machine and satisfying your geekazoid curiosity about the hollow version, it wouldn't be long before you'd be pining for the new one.
