Re: Do you think the Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough will ever come back?

Wasn't the castle also on a video tape confiscated by the US military that showed potential targets by al Qaeda? I believe along with the WTC and the Pentagon, the castle was on the tape as well.

well, a terrorist is all about psychological impact- lets see- destroying a national cultural icon that is beloved by children and adults. Sounds pretty terrifying. I can think of a couple hundred thousand AP's who would be pretty devastated.

ORWEN: If a witch isn't mistaken, the newest version of Sleeping Beauty Castle may end up with a Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-thru, at least. I mean, this is what I read from the interview--right here on MiceAge--when Alain Littaye interviewd Tom Morris.

ORDDU: Of course Tom claimed that no decision had been made about this just yet. They want to wait and see what the Hong Kong guests would prefer for their castle.

That is scary - I suppose the castle stands for much of the same that America stands for. Wow, never really thought about it, but that is really scary.

Re: Do you think the Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough will ever come back?

Next to the 3 black circles creating a Mickey Mouse symbol next in line to represent the Disney Co. is that castle and the cartoon version of it used for Walt Disney Studios.

Up and down the West Coast the most iconic structures that have been seen in terrorist videos are from North to South: Seattle Space Needle, Gold Gate Bridge, and Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland. They have seen images of more locations but those are pretty much the top "targets." I want to say something in LA was a target as well, but I just can't remember at the moment.

Aside from iconic structures here in the Northwest big Co.'s like Boeing, Microsoft, Starbucks have all been seen as economic targets, especially before Boeing's Headquarters moved.

Strangely enough I hear very little about military targets, like the bases in San Diego or Fort Lewis here in the Seattle area (save for the attack on the Pentagon). You hear about economic and iconic targets because blowing up Sleeping Beauty's castle will have a larger psychological affect on American's than on Microsoft's campus being destoryed. Even though destroying Microsoft's campus would have a HUGE direct impact on hundreds of thousands of people.

ORWEN: Hmmmm....well if Sleeping Beauty Castle really IS such a big target, shouldn't its drawbridge be raised for protection, too?

ORGOCH: Dang thing don't WORK no more, dummy! Where the Heck've ya been?!

They are probably afraid of getting sued because someone will have such a good time walking through the attraction. The security team must always remember that no one is allowed to have fun at all while visiting Disneyland. If someone had fun there, then they have to step up security to prevent that from happening again.

Yes- it has been raised and lowered on two seperate occasions. I believe it was once when disneyland opened- there is a famous picture of children running through the castle afterwards. The other time was in the 80's after Fanatasyland was remodled and reopened.

Re: Do you think the Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough will ever come back?

The draw-bridge has gone down twice (for the public to see). Once on opening day July 17th, 1955, and then later on the re-opening of Fantasyland once it was re-themed to the current state in 1983.

Rumor was that it was going to be used again for the 50th, but apparently the draw-bridge is pretty well taken apart or something so it isn't gonna be raising or lowering anytime soon.

Yup. They lowered it on opening day & closed it when Fantasyland was being re-modeled.
