What happened to Donald Duck?

We just spent the last five days at DLR and there was virtually no sign of Donald. We never saw him in either park taking pictures or signing autographs. My daughter really wanted to see him. There is hardly any merchandise with his image. We found one T-shirt design between both parks and Downtown Disney. It was pretty frustrating. When and why did Grumpy take Donald's place in merchandising. Grumpy is everywhere. Has Donald Duck been banished from DLR? Did he and Daisy get caught ruffling each others feathers on one of the Small World boats?

I saw him in December of last year when I was there... but you are right in that he doesn't seem to be around as much as the other characters.

Donald spends most of his time on sabbatical leave at Tokyo Disneyland Resort. He says the rides are bigger, the beer tastes better and the babes are friendlier. Plus, being around Goofy here isn't everything it's quacked up to be.

Last Saturday, I saw Donald twice in Town Square. Once, doing the standard meet and greet. And the second time with the Celebration Jazz Band (aka Main St. Strawhatters) as in penguinsoda's photo above. Maybe the CMs who normally are friends with Donald were sick the past few days. :???:

Donald gets the shaft in merchandise, too. In a Main Street shop I saw coffee mugs with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto - four of the fab five - but no Donald. :( I have a friend who is a huge Donald Duck fan and is most disappointed. No wonder Don interjected his name into the Mickey Mouse March; he doesn't seem to be heard much lately.

Even his denied attempt at being host in the 50 Magical Years show is going away this weekend..

Judging by what you said here, Donald must normally stay pretty busy at the park - if normally it's one suited person most or all of each day.

Short Answer: Once Grumpy merchandise started to massively outsell the Donald merch, that's when Disney made more Grumpy than Donald.

That or he re-activated his Naval commission and is out there fighting the War on Terror.

I've always found that catching Donald in Disneyland is a rarity in Disneyland. Seems to be sighted more in DCA in that director's outfit.

Do they have Donald in the Davy Crockett-esque outfit like they do in WDW? That one was hugely popular, always a big line...
