New Orleans Square, Katrina style

Wouldn't it be awesome if Disney made New Orleans Square a place for displaced Katrina victims to get help till they could be relocated? They could have tables with free clothing, job fairs and more. fund raising drives from guests that could mee them, etc. Nothing commercial, just relief.
They could continously airlift them in, let their kids have a day at the park and then help them find jobs and a place out here( placement center) in the land.

Maybe the WDC could even give some of them jobs?

I know there are a million reasons why it does not make sense, but when you have a spare French Quarter right in your own country, it seems dumb not to share it.

You have a very kind and thoughtful spirit, but this is not such a good idea. Disneyland is just not the place for that kind of thing. (No offense.)

It would be nice if disney gave free passes to Disneyland or Disney World to people who lost their homes in the hurricane. But, I'm sure that vacations are the last thing on the mind of a family who is just trying to get their lives back together.

Dustysage, you are correct. But...there are exceptions: Actually, I am a Katrina victim (just got power back 2 days ago!). We're more lucky than most in the city (We don't live in the city), but we got pounded pretty badly. Nevertheless, we are going on our WDW honeymoon tomorrow

In reference to above, in all honesty, I don't think what DL has is a "spare franch quarter" It would be like saying that DIsney has a spare Indy 500 track with the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway in WDW. In truth, the french quarter was one of the luckiest areas of N.O. There's nothing for Disney to do other than make a nice Red Cross donation, etc.

Yeah, but would this be fair to the millions of other people around the world who had a disaster ruin their homes and their lives? When it comes down to it, Katrina was a natural disaster. So are all the other hurricanes, volcano explosions, tornados, tsunamis, brush fires, earthquakes, etc. Favoring Katrina victims over other people who had similar situations just seems a bit unfair to me. Just my 7¢.

No, complementary admission, or discounts are common practice in many entertainment and hospitality venues, for many types of situations like disasters. It's nothing new for Katrina, nor specific to it. (Not that they're doing it, but many other places are: Six Flags for example)

There are tasteful ways of acknowledging major events ....... perhaps a plaque or something else, understated.

But I don't feel anything is appropriate, actually ...... since in many people's eyes .. pick this theme park above all others (even Magic Mountain) to leave the real world outside.
