I'm dissapointed that we didn't get the boardwalk. It still would of had a tremendous impact on the theming and beauty of the area, but it would of really just been a nice add on.

The boardwalk/covered queue was the only thing I was really excited about the fun wheel refurb. The new colors are great, they pop much better than the bland yellow and teal color scheme. But is it really wrong that we expected more?

Oriental Land Company owns and runs Tokyo Disneyland Resort. They pay Disney a percentage for the use of the characters and Disney Theme. But US Imagineering built Disney Seas. They were under Oriental Land Company for that time. At that time OLC was also flush with money and kept telling them to spend more, spend more you are not spending enought. I know a couple if Imagineers and they told me this. It was an Imagineering dream to be told to spend more.

Disney does have input on what is built there. But yes, the money comes from OLC and they own the property and the stuff built there. If OLC were to do something that Disney did not agree with, Disney could pull the licensing rights and pull everthing that Disney has copyrights too and that would mean the end of the Tokyo Disneyland Resort because just about everything in the Parks is copyrighted by Disney and that includes the names of the rides and the characters.

k_peek clearly doesn't realize that this isn't a one way deal. Think Disneyland was perfect in 1 phase. Nope, why judge right now. Paradise Pier won't be totally "complete" until the budget is gone in my honest opinion. You are saying all these things well guess what, they can come LATER. Disneyland was a form of trial and error and thats what all Disney parks are. Try something, fix it. You are judging the entire park one year into the makeover, great attitude.

Hmmm... $1.1 Billion for the entire project but only a portion of that is being spent on Phase I, according to the online sources. The boardwalk was shelved to reallocate those funds to other projects for Phase I but is rumored to be included in Phase II. So, if that proves to be true and we get our boardwalk when ALL of the $1.1 billion is spent, that would be right in line with what we had hoped.

The difference was a leadership that was willing to do whatever it took to make it perfect. Whatever the outcome of this rennovation is.. the company has got a lot of bad history to make up for before people will believe they will adapt and improve if what they do fails.

For folks interested in the World Of Color platform (not trying to start more fighting - just enjoying figuring out how it works), I've studied my Thursday photos a bit more carefully and found some interesting info:

This picture (and a little help from oversharpening in PhotoShop) show the manufacturer of the blue tanks.

    Here's the name close up:

It turns out to be Boat Floater Industries of Miami, Oklahoma. That's right - Boat Floater. You can read all about them on their website. They have plenty of images and some .PDF brochures you can take a look at.

And this picture shows the metal support structure for the blue tanks which is the same as used on the Boat Floater boat lifts:

    Here it is close up:

So basically, this thing is a giant fiberglass platform mounted on a boat lift. Hmmmmm.

I haven't been able to find out anything about the black tanks yet. They may just be sealed and filled with air to provide neutral buoyancy for the platform (or just reduce the required lifting power) while the blue ones are used to lift and lower the thing. Or maybe not. I'm just guessing. Not trying to get into fights here. Nope. Just interested in how it works. Yup.

TDS still stands as proof of what WDI can do, but also of what Disney itself won't do, sadly.

The different designs of the view area were brought up a bit ago, and the one from the art with the archway was classified as concept from a scrapped direction for the pier, while the, IMHO, less interesting and detailed version the model depicts is apparently what they are going with. My question is, why? Even if the the design was from a defunct concept, why not salvage it as one of the good ideas from that concept? To my eye, it is much more visually pleasing and in theme than the model. Why choose to build the uglier of two options?

and Disney Imagineers have designed some brillaint things for DCA but not all can be PAYED for. TDS has the advantage of having the OLC shell out for the park, DCA doesn't and falls way more easily to budget contraints...if one things is bad about this project is we will neve rsee what Imagineers truely want for an amazing DCA...that being said though I love the changes taking place and everything is a step in right direction.

Great work Macro! I feel like we should be calling you 'Zoom' instead of Macro

Certainly those are ballast tanks and not just pontoons. That would make you think they are truely going to use ballasting to rise and lower the platform, tho I'm really amazed they are going that way. There is just so much room for failure when their number of control points gets so large.

Unfortunately the website doesn't describe the tanks in detail. I wonder if they are have bladders or just flaps to allow the flooding and blow-out. I'm really curious how they operate since from their boat lifts there seems to be no controls in their boat lifts except air pressure. Wondering if it's just like a air pocket, or actual flaps held closed. I kind of wish we had this for our boat at home! But would need too much draft under the boat. Maybe I'll call them this week for more details

Yeah.. me too! Maybe the black tanks will be 'dry spaces' to house equipment/controls.
