Yeah it could work but it's not plausible. I think they've only got a few way to go and that doesn't include anything except busses. Not even trams, because you can't run 'em across Harbor and the City won't let you build an overpass because it will look bad so my guesses is busses...

an elevated guideway is one of the options in the Anaheim transportation study. so an overpass or guideway over Harbor may not be as much of a problem as it was a few years ago. also I have no information on the underground utilities in the area, but an underpass should also be looked at.

it's not as glamorous but how about a subway system.

    stations at:
    Pumbaa
    Plaza
    DTD
    DLH
    Mickey and Friends

Well, the elevated transportation considered is a monorail/ elevated train that DOESN'T cross Harbor Blvd. I'd like to see a monorail to all of those stations rather than a subway, but Disney has to realize if they want a resort they need to have resort transportation, and frankly, they might as well remove the majority of the original track and do what you planned. The original track is going to become too much of a problem due to its tight turns and although many might object to this thought, eventually, not now but eventually, the structural integrity will fall apart, so the beams will have to be replaced anyway.

Not as glamorous but 10 times as expensive.

I know we've all heard about the additional parking lot being added at the Strawberry Fields/3rd Gate. But this article mentions a parking structure/garage. It's likely the author is simply mixing up the Pumbaa Structure with the lot in the fields, but if not, a 3rd gate seems even further off.

Disney went before the Anaheim Planning Commission last week in order to pitch a plan to build an additional parking structure on land that they purchased eleven years ago.

    ...

The fact that Disney will now build a parking garage on this property...

    The new parking structure...

That's not true... It's misinformed media... Why build a temporary parking structure and make it that far away for only 6 years when they could very well due the same on Pumbaa?

    He's just wrong...

this is from slide 21 of the July 29, 2009 Anaheim Fixed-Guideway Study. it may have changed since then, but the alternate routes in red dashes cross Harbor. on slide 22 it says that the people mover, monorail, maglev and personal rapid transit alternatives do not have at-grade street crossings

    Alternatives and Variations Under Consideration

    Rail Alternative - North

    Preliminary Alignment:

    Elevated along Katella Avenue/East of. I- 5/Manchester Avenue/Disney Parking Structure/Harbor Boulevard/Anaheim Convention Center.

With alignment variation along Disney Way, Katella Avenue or Disneyland property service road.

I would like to see a WDW style monorail along that route also. I tossed out that subway idea because elevated stations along that route at the plaza, DTD and DLH might be too congested visually. I guess one way to do it would be to keep only the original monorail route inside Tomorrow Land and build a new separate monorail serving the outside stations. I wonder if the existing route in the Grand California Hotel is big enough to handle the larger trains?

I was searching the net for parking info and ran across this thread on my very own site (I don't even remember seeing it before). I'd love to see this get updated. Fantastic info!

    Sooooooooooo

Has anyone noticed anything different in the RTP operations at the DLR recently?

I for one have noticed more efficient tram operation...

The other day I noticed this too. Seems like I had to wait WAAAY less than normally for a tram. For once it was one after another and it flowed so smoothly

Hey good thread, let's face it we all get to Disneyland today the same way we Americans did in 1955, in our Chevrolets.

But since opening days at their parks, Japanese, Europeans and Chinese arrive by bullet train or light rail connections that drop them off at the gate.

See also: Mass Transit 2 the Disneyland Resort for a discussion of ways to leave our personal vehicles at home when visiting the parks.

Seems like a good idea for a thread. A lot has changed since '09-'10 around the Resort. Toy Story is open, the tram systems seems hugely improved and more efficient, they don't force people to park in GardenWalk or the Convention Center any more, etc., etc.

It has changed a ton. I was thinkihng about that as I updated the post. Gone is the plan to run a tram from the Simba lot across Disneyland Dr. again, the Pumbaa parking structure that was to be completed sometime this year, and so on.
