How does the door at the Matterhorn's peak open?

I watched it last night and it kind of looked like a garage door opening extremely slowly... yet that's probably not possible. Ultimately it looked like a little hole that turned into two holes that kept growing larger. It's pretty weird.

    Anyone know how this works?

Haven't stood there and watched it, and IANACM, but it sure looks like double-doors that open inward, either manual or hydraulic.

(And even if the "rock" on the doors is done with acrylic stucco over sculpted foam, those doors still need a steel tube framework and are going to weigh a few hundred pounds each, so you have to build them stout.)

They probably use pantograph hinges that allow the outer edges to swing in first, so the "rockwork" doesn't hit at the edges. And with a proper "hidden hinge" style setup (like kitchen cabinets use, but scaled up) they don't have to leave a huge gap for clearance, the overlap would hide it.

And following standard hazardous area policies, if the outer doors aren't closed and locked NOBODY goes into that area without being roped and harnessed. Because that first step is a real pip...

Re: How does the door at the Matterhorn's peak open?

I watched it once last year from the front of the Hub and it looked like it was a single door that swung inward. At that elevation in the mountain there isn't a lot of room and a single door all to one side would make sense in terms of space issues and keeping anything moving out of the way as much as possible. You can see the seam around the door quite easily in daylight.. but there is no visible seam down the middle.

Do we know for certain double or single piece door?

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

Nah, it's Walt's frozen head, and the loop they're going to be adding to the Mr. Lincoln show!

The Matterhorn peak opens when Mickey is ready to lauch missiles at fly-by terrorists.

Re: How does the door at the Matterhorn's peak open?

Anybody actually know? I have been wrestling with this one for a long time. I asked many months ago but my post got derailed by bullies and thrown off topic (you know who you guys are).

The Mattercam gets close in but it's not high enough to see the door.

I have an aerial shot but it gets too blurry too fast to see any details of the door.
