It's funny. Thinking about the attraction from the outside I think it always went clockwise. But remembering the show itself from the inside it definitely did go counter clockwise.

So I stand corrected. Although please don't ask me which way I am standing!
I always thought the same thing. But YouTube videos clearly show the audience moving counter-clockwise.

Carousels go counter clockwise while Merry-go-rounds go clockwise.... both COP and America Sings went counter clockwise... Innoventions goes clockwise.

I personally would like to see COP return to DL. The original theater is the only location for such a show to expand properly. Since MK does not have a 2nd level the show has to now jump from 1940 to 2000 but with the 2nd floor the show could be brought back to the original ending and have the speedramp up to the 2nd level and have the House of the Future/Dream House exhibit to showcase the newer technology.... or even space out the time changes abit more instead of the 1940s they could change it to the 50's(there really wasnt much of a difference in the technology)... and then the final scene could be set in the 70's that way when you go up the ramp to the 2nd floor you would be in the 2000's and it would make the scene changes at around 25 years (1900 - 1925 - 1950 - 1975 - 2000)

simply because the idea of a rotating theatre is a genius form of entertainment that still pushes the crowds through. Not only that it allows for so many creative ideas. All of which Innoventions takes no advantage of. It still spins, but it just serves to make for a longer wait and a subpar preshow to a below Disney standards attraction. That is why. Plus I'm a fan of America Sings.

Are you positive? I could swear the reason for the CM accident was that the building now rotated in a different direction... even so I seem to remember COP rotating the same direction as America Sings.

Carousels/merry-go-rounds have nothing to do the direction of the Carousel Theatre building ... it's called the Carousel Theatre after its original attraction, Carousel of Progress ... which was not a carousel.

And that directional thing is mostly, but not always, true. The main, proper, difference between the two is that traditionally carousels only contain horses, while merry-go-rounds contain a mix of different animals and benches. Walt was a stickler for nomenculture, and is the reason he insisted on calling DL's carousel a carousel. Of course Disney broke this grammar-obsessed attention to detail with naming the merry-go-round in DCA a carousel ... but that's just one of the small mistakes with that park.
