Astro-Orbitor and Cosmic Waves behind walls

That's right! Both areas are now surrounded by walls and the floor of Cosmic Waves is removed. Its funny to see the mechanisms for the fountains are all still there!

I wonder what they are doing!

With the construction walls up in the area, Disney has taken the opportunity to repave some more of the Tomorrowland walkways that used to feature red pavers in the new gray style.

Down in Tomorrowland, at the former Cosmic Waves fountain, work continues in the area.

There are a lot more detailed pics on mousetimes.com newest pictorial! <link deleted>

I wish they'd just remove what's left of Cosmic Waves. What a waste.

Waitta minute - Cosmic Waves is the "floating boulder" thing, right? And the Observatron is what's shown in picture #1 above - but it's not part of the Astro Orbiter, is it? Are those Dumbo-style rocket ships still running? I have a 5-yo granddaughter who loves those rockets, so I'd better find out!
    Thanks,

Observetron is the thing that's in the center of tomorrowland above the people mover track. The Astro-Orbitor is the RIDE at the entrance to the land

Yeah, I wouldn't mind if it was paved over. More walking space.

If they paved it over, that area would become the hot barren wasteland it was before the refurbishment.

They really should add more trees or shade to Tomorrowland, but since that would destroy the views of Space Mountain, Innoventions, and the Observatron, they will never do it.

Well that's certainly rude that micechat would allow pictures to be posted and a thread with news based off of a photo report but not allow a link to the photo report itself..

Then plant some trees where Cosmic Waves is and put in some benches. Space Mountain could use some more shaded waiting area for parents waiting for their kids to get off the ride.

Or bring back the Space Mountain speedramps. The current queue entrance is so anti-climactic and uninspired.

Trees and benches? Surely you can come up with a more futuristic solution than that?

But I suppose just about anything is more futuristic than a granite ball surrounded by a circle of playground rubber.

Cosmic Waves is the perfect sport for another ODV - there aren't enough of them in Tomorrowland now (hehe).

I really have never seen that section of TL very crowded except for all the people trying to stop that stupid ball thing...they should have just left the speedramps for SM there.

The reason they were removed was to give Space Mountain added queue space and to keep the line from extending out into the plaza, cutting off access to Pizza Port and Hista. That decision was made back in 1998, before Fastpass. If they added the ramps back today, where would all those people go?
