There's a certain treehouse nearby which should provide plenty of viewing angles.

If I remember correctly, the ROA was drained in 2003.

Well, yeah, you can see into the ROA from there, but the poster I was responding to was looking for pictures of the Fantasmic equipment around front of the river.

The monopod idea sounds like the best one to me. I'm 6'2" and even I had a hard time just sticking the camera over the wall last time around.

Disney is doing a great job of hiding the magic of WoC construction. I suspect they'll do just as well with F! on ROA.

The level of interest, the ease of digital photography and the simplicity of posting on the web for millions to see, all make it virtually impossible to hide the magic these days.

Incidentally, they should have called the monopod the "mopod" - that's much more hip and easily marketable.

There are plenty of pics over at mouseplanet. You see, they keep everything they've published available.

Here's one. I hope this is OK to do (i.e., copy/paste a picture).

Re: Rivers of America Spring 2010 closure

We have plenty of pics (on film, LOL) of the drained ROA. It was a crack-up to see the big trucks and other equipment in there.

From what I recall, getting pics of it was not a problem. We've never used a monopod or any other device for getting "spy" photo's, so it must have been an easy deal.

There was a recent thread here (maybe a year or so ago) that had a few of the empty ROA pics in it.

Note the small thin lines snaking along the bottom of the river in that picture (not the hoses coming out of the hole).

Many people mistake those as gas lines for the fire effects. But in reality they are the guideways for all the AA ducks that "swim" in the ROA.

^Haha. The same technology they use on the swans in the moat, and on the cats, and on the squirrels, and on the big weather bubble...

That's the "And then something goes horribly wrong" scenario that Disney is famous for.

Jason over at Disneygeek.com has a whole section on the 2003 draining with great pics. AI recommend you check it out as he got some great shots. They're under the construction progress section I think.

Re: Rivers of America Spring 2010 closure

From what I know... The draining of the river is not so much for Fantasmic! As it is to do some work on the Mark Twain and Columbia guide rails.

Probably some repair and maintenance on the fountains for the show, and gas lines too... But I doubt they will be replaced with moving nozzle designs. Moving nozzles could be installed on the fountain lifts without the river even being drained. Each fountain lift can rise much higher than they do for Fantasmic! They can get a good 2 feet above the water level for work on the entire structure.

On a related subject, is Disney ever going to own up to placing AA diners in the Blue Bayou restaurant?
