    Poem About Disneyland :)

At school, we had to write a poem about an event in History. (Of course I chose Disneyland)

I asked my teacher about it, and she said it wasnt a real event in history, but to give it a shot. (I was upset when she said that, but oh well)

Does anyone else have a poem to share? Im sure all of us would love to hear it!!!

I dont know If I will share mine.

*EDIT* or a story, or a dream!!! This should be fun!!!

    Finally a place
where we are free to dream and
    free to imagine.

Haiku is my medium of choice!

I think it was wise of your teacher to recognize that this was topic that is special to you (and of historical value too). Poetry flows best when it's written for something in which you have passion.

Please share if you feel comfortable to do so!

Cool Re: Poem About Disneyland :)

I just wrote an elegy for Walt Disney for English. It's not something super good, but oh well. Here it is:

You are one of America’s greatest leaders.
Most would say George Washington or Martin Luther King Jr. when asked,
But I couldn’t imagine the world nor the United States without you,
Even though your life seems so short.

You fought your heart out to see your visions come true.
    Your first company went bankrupt,
But you didn’t stop like any ordinary man.
You fought hard to create your own empire,
An empire that still stands strong.

Your main character was lost, but in the end you won.
Oswald was lost in legal matters to Universal,
    You fought harder still.
At the time, Universal was getting away with something,
But you had the last laugh.
You dreamed up the most beloved character of all-
    Mickey Mouse

When the time had come to expand your empire, your dreamland was said to fail.
Yet again you didn’t give up.
Your so called “doomedland” wasn’t really doomed,
    It still lives on.
Disneyland has seen 500,000,000 guests up to this day.

Your dreams, ideas, they all carry on.
Disneyland stays true to your statement:
“Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to
grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

You were a person to look upon.
Many of you statements serve inspirations to me,
But none more than the following,
“All our dreams can come true,
if we have the courage to pursue them.”

You have been awarded greatly for your accomplishments:
    26 Oscars,
    7 Emmys,
    2 Sidewalk Stars.
    A Congressional Medal,
Yet the best award is knowing you achieved your goal,
Having kids and parents have fun together.

Don’t worry: even with your life cut short, your spirit lives on.
    Your name a household word,
Your Company as healthy as ever,
Your Magic Kingdom bringing joy around the world.

    Thank you, for everything,
You are a hero of the world,
    Once again, thank you
    Mr. Walt Disney

Wow, what a great elegy to honor Walt's life! True to the elegy form and true to Walt. Great job!

Wait wait, I just noticed what you said here...this IS good! Is this something that you're telling yourself? Obviously you put a lot of thought into it so it must be special to you! And it brought a little tear to my eye, so you were weaving something sentimental into the poem, as is the style of the elegy.

    I think it's great. I give you an A+.

Haiku is fast and fun! It's the easiest kind of poetry for me to write. Actually maybe the easiest anything for me to write. I once wrote an 8 page haiku form poem - so many things I might have had trouble saying otherwise were somehow easy to express when broken down into 5-7-5.

    What a fantastic thread!
    Very talented MiceChatters!

I have no brilliantly inspirational scribblings in my back pocket, but I love me some off-the-cuff haiku, so...

    Main Street Twinkle Lights
    Pirates, Teacups, Wilderness
    Magic Surrounds Us

Or, for those negative folks in the audience -

    Stupid construction
Strollers smack my ankles - ouch!
    All is expensive.

    And the truly inspirational...

    Ignore the long line
    Delightfully sweet and warm
    I love you, churro.
