Re: Opening day for the Food and Wine Festival

Does the corn dog castle still have a special or is it closed now?
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Hi NNL, I walked by the Corn Dog Castle to specifically look for that special. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the cheese-infused corn dog from last year, nor any new offering too. The stand itself is still open...I think until the end of May, if I remember Al's update correctly.

Re: Opening day for the Food and Wine Festival

We went yesterday. I really did not like how everything was spread out. We saw the food and wine menus as we passed, but did not stop to try anything. It just was not the same. Everything in one place was better. I also liked how in the past you could get small samples of the food. It appeared from the pricing these were full size meals being served at the various eating locations.

I also noticed all the tables seemed to be full at the eating locations (i admit it was very busy, but still). So, once you purchase the food where do you eat it? The food court area by the wharf had lots of open tables. It just seems poorly planned this year.

For me it's a toss about about size. I liked the lower price but then you really didn't get all that much. The Tataki salad does sound good now that it has been explained as to what exactly it is. I remember loving that cheddar soup and so am glad to hear it is in a full size bread bowl. I also saw chef Robert Irvine (though I really had no idea who he was because I don't have cable) but I did not get a seat. I stood in the back and watched. He's pretty buff

Does anyone have a list of all the festival foods/locations? The photos show some, and thank you for that! I'm bringing my vegetarian brother this weekend, and would like to know all our options by the time we go.

I have told him about the white cheddar cheese soup in a bread bowl, and he's looking forward to that. Someone said that was at the bakery?

it is at the bakery at the wharf, but I'm pretty sure it's made with bacon. Every recipe I found for it calls for bacon.

mcow, thanks for the SPECIAL menus. I've been hoping someone would do that. And thanks to everyone who filled in the blanks.

I have made that cheddar soup, and the amount of bacon used is HUGE. You even throw in all of the fat rendered out back into the soup.

I wish I could still get appetizer portions. I loved buying three or four at a time for my lunch.

i don't eat beef or pork. I took one bite of that soup and the bacon taste was overwhelming.

We would do the same thing with the smaller potions. e would always a get a few to try. The large portions don't really allow for that.

I had the Tataki salad last night and it was delicious. The ahi tuna was cooked perfectly and just incredibly yummy. I think it's the first time I've ever had a healthy salad (you know not like a taco salad) and I was completely full. I was shocked at how much food was in it. Great value for the price!

I won't be getting it again, because the Thai Basil was just a little overpowering and kept throwing off the flavor a bit...but all in all it was good.

I can't wait to try some of the other dishes.

Not that you'd want to this year because you'd have to spend forty-plus minutes walking all over the park and waiting in lines to get what you'd want!

Anyone know what special dish they're serving at Wine Country Trattoria?

Also, can you just walk in for the upstairs terrace tastings or is some sort of reservation/Priority Seating needed?

We couldn't see anything at the Trattoria that said what the special dish was. As for the lounge just walk on up. Sometimes it gets full though. But, it's worth the wait.
