Smile The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

Well here I am again asking stupid questions hoping for any answers!
I love the haunted mansion but I hate the far side of the loading area the so called "Limbo" scene. because the idea I get looking at it and the general thought I hear from other people who arnt disney freaks dont understand why there is an outside in between the stairs and the house on this side.
Ala Inside outside inside feeling. so I was thinking why not make it look like a grand stair case of sorts like how it looks in the movie no wait well yah little hallway to the ball room and the grand stair case mirrord on the other side make it look like the buggies are comming in from outside and are going up the left hand side of the stairs and then the upper part of the stairs go up to the top and theres a little balcony conecting them and 2 hallways going back but we only go into one hallway

basicly cram the stairs on the right in then the back wall and archway with clock. It should essentually work if done right.
I know some people diddnt like the movie but. you gotta admit they did pretty good with the props and scenery.
does anyone else have Ideas maybe better ones?

Short answer: Yes, many of us Mansion nerds (and I say that in the best possible sense) think the current vague black loading room isn't that wonderful, and would love actual scenery..it has popped up a few times, along with concept art and photos from Disneyland Paris usually, in the Thread, and such...you aren't alone in thinking this at all.

I wish they could cram something like the Escher staircases in WDW's version into our loading area, but I don't think we have the room.

That's a persistent notion, but there actually is room. Our loading area is exactly the same size and shape as the Escher staircase scene in the WDW version! Actually, it's bigger...imagine our loading area except with a wall just to the left of the track, instead of the queue. That's the size and shape of the scene in WDW. So it could totally fit - it would just need to be convincing and interesting enough for people to be able to look at it for somewhat longer, since they'd be standing in line looking at it.

Re: The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

That sounds great but I think it's almost too ornate for our mansion. It would kind of make the balroom scene seem less cool in comparrison. Something I think would work better would be the escher stairs from WDW. It would still be erie and trippy but there would be more going on than the current "blah" limbo scene.

Re: The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

I'm still all for just trying it with the current setup, but with the lights turned way down. Screw the lawyers, and make it so you absolutely cannot see the walls and ceiling. If people are tripping over themselves like babes in the woods - oh crap, wrong entertainment company! - or if it's still unimpressive, then they can replace it with something brighter. Phantom Manor in DLP features a "proper" loading area in a similar vein, though it was of course not inspired by the film. (If anything, that set in the film was inspired by the Phantom Manor loading area.) So it has the potential to work. But WDI would need to be really careful to match the decor to the rest of the mansion. With as many fans as this attraction has, it'd be really easy to annoy some folks by just doing something that sorta looked similar.

Re: The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

Since the limbo/loading area is meant to be very subtle... I think they just need to put in wallpaper, moulding, and bring in copies of the paintings from MK (the old following eyes portriats but in the current regular painting versions like MK has in their loading area)

Re: The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

I never really had a problem with our loading area. I know other Disney Mansions have more elaborate loading areas, but it seems to me ours is perfectly lit to prepare you for the attraction. Putting in a staircase like the one you proposed (or like DLP's) would mean slightly brighter lighting when the pre-show and loading area are trying to adjust your eyes to prepare you for the dimly-lit attraction. Maybe I'm wrong and the area could be "plussed" without brighter lights, I'm not sure.

I do like our Mansion the way it is, even though WDW's and TDL's have additional scenes with a library and Escher stairs (in TDL's, it's spiderwebs). Ours is the original creation (with slight modifications/changes over the years, but no entirely new scenes) and I believe should stay relatively the same. Since the other Mansions came after, it seems they had more of a right to change things. However, I would not at all mind the animatronic Leota tombstone outside our Mansion... but then again she wouldn't fit in with the pet cemetary.

Re: The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

The loading area at HM in Disneyland does feel pretty empty. I always get the feeling that something's missing when I get in there.

It's not that something's missing...it's just an overabundance of photons!

Re: The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

It does feel like Limbo in there, so if its really a limbo room, they did a good job.

An improvement is welcome though!

Re: The Haunted Mansion "Limbo Area" Improvements

go ahead and throw bricks at me, but I think the area of the mansion in question looks fine the way it is.

It projects this picture: doom buggies approaching: where are they going????(leaves you to think: what is on the other side?) I think that adding something to the loading area would ruine the aesthetics of, and the experience of the scenario.
