Thumbs up Remembering the Original Fantasmic.....

So Today i was cleaning out my closet when i stumbled across some fantastic pictures and promo's from the Original Fantasmic! show from 1992. It's now in its 18th year, still going strong, on the rivers of America. Some stuff over the years has had minor changes like strobes, lighting effects, fireworks, and the most noticeable was the Ursula barge unit which was removed from its entirety. Still, the show proves to be one of Disneyland's most popular of Nighttime entertainment!. Next, month will be the biggest change ever with a new Maleficent Dragon, Tick Tock the new Crocodile, and 2 new Cast Members Flotsom & Jetsam!. It will be nice to see the new effects, the HD projectors with film, and effects, they are keeping the show fresh and new for so many more years. So does anyone remember when it first opened? What was your reaction? how did you feel? I went to the "Cast Preview" back then in 1992 i was about 8 years old, my dad was working at the park at that time, and from all i remember was standing in front of the rivers of america and astonished by what i was seeing. The Maleficent dragon was always the most scariest part of the show for me!. But when the finale with all the characters on the Mark, Twain came around i felt overjoyed and excited that good triumpthed over evil!. Til this day i am still astonished how they do stuff in that show or how it always seems so fresh and new after all these years. Anyways, it it wasnt for Barnette Ricci, (she was an Disneyland Entertainment cast member, dancer,in the early 80's and 90's then went on to work for WDI), dreamed this show up. It was first going to be called "FANTASMAGORIA" then "FANTASIA", then came up with the name FANTASMIC!, Bruce Healey composed the Music, Tom Busch, wrote the Storyline, and many hard and dedicated Imaginears came up with the Special Effects and Magic the guests see every night. So now lets take a look back on some pictures, promos, and concept art work that was used to promote the magic of Fantasmic........

HERE IS SOME ARTWORK THAT WAS USED TO ADORN THE CONSTUCTION WALLS OF FANTASMIC!.

CONCEPT ART: YOU WILL NOTICE SOME STUFF THAT DIDNT MAKE IT INTO THE FINAL SHOW......

    Re: Remembering the Original Fantasmic.....

Wow! 18th year?? I feel old now... thank you.

I have happy memories of being their its premiere week (sometime in May). It was also my 1st year of having an annual pass. Old school pass, real polaroid pic stuck to card stock and laminated.

    Memories:
"Welcome to Fantasmic......." I was soo excited as the lights dimmed..... I (like others) waited patiently through the draining of the Rivers of America and walled off riverbank from the summer before. Staring at the promo billboards (pictured above) made me more anxious as May approached.

    Oooooo moments.. (Remember...it was 1992)
Light beams that shot straight up!
    Mickey's finger tips shooting fireworks

    Whoa! moments:
    MIST SCREENS

    Oh S$%t! that scared me:
    Columbia entrance BOOOOOM!!

Awwww ...I just teared up moment:
    Princess segment especially the music.

    Sensory overload moment:
    Water catching on fire!
    Dragon coming out of nowhere.

    I feel happy moment:
Mark Twain with all the characters waving

I'm glad I sat here on the hard ground for 3 hours prior to the show moment:
Finale with Scocerer Mickey with laser, fireworks, pyro.

    Confused moment:
Trying to get out of the area after the show.... They didn't figure out crowd management at that point in time... it was every man, woman, child and stroller for himself.

    Awesome stuff!

    Thanks for posting.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Thanks for sharing theses pictures with us. It is very interesting. Was there ever a Monstro scene? oh wait a minute? I think that art image, is referring to the misty scene of him in the movie.
