Re: Tow Mater's Junkyard Jubilee May Boast Unique and Unexpected FlatRide System

LOL. Its funny how fast word gets back to Screamscape that they must be wrong, and then they retract...

2012 - Cars Land - (5/19/09) It’s amazing how much confusion and fuss has come up about the Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree ride. Several of you have pointed out that it can’t be that simple Figure-8 style kiddie flat because Disney has already used it at the nearby Ladybug Boogie ride. By contrast, I’ve also heard that the Mater version may be a bigger and more complex version, where the cars will move in the same figure-8 style pattern, but around 4 large circle platforms instead of just two.
Adding to the mystery of that Whip style concept ride is semi-blurry photo floating around showing off what is said to be John Lassiter being pulled around a parking lot somewhere by a tractor, riding in what looks like a two-seater mock-up ride car that appears to be built to slide around corners Whip style. Meanwhile another source also backs up that story, claiming that the ride experience will be almost ‘Whip’ like. I’ve got to admit, I’m leaning towards the Whip style ride myself, especially after going back to take another look at the old article on the LA Times. You’ll see artwork that fits the basic concept I described… a two-seat car being pulled by a tractor.

Ride Warrior, you are spot on. This ride does look like it's going to rock!

I have to say I'm insanely jealous, because at our WDW, we have yet to see a trackless ride at any of our 4 parks.

Between this and the PeopleMover thread, you've brought a lot of good news recently RideWarrior!
at wdw we have Tower of terror which has a trackless ride system for the 5th dimension hallway

ditto, mel and uncle bob.

However I do recall Lightning McQueen asking Sally why she didn't go back to California while at the Wagon Wheel Motel. But I still think Carsland is a good idea, yet it should be a more generic land and namesake.

Like how Fantasyland has mini-lands to Pinchhico (sp) (Daring Journey & restaurant), Dumbo (Flying Elephants & Casey Jr.), and Alice in Wonderland (Dark ride and tea cups).

Carsland should be a mini-land to Radiator Springs Racers, Tow Mater, and Luigi (I'm still not yet convinced if this will at all work out in the end). A Drive-in and 50's diner would be a compliment.

But with the Sally Cone Motel, Phil's Organic Fuel, and Surge's Surplus, these I believe are "fillers" until a budget and design can be made up for new attractions. Like how Bear Country only had the Country Bears attraction then eventually Splash Mountain came and the land was renamed Critter Country. But that's just my guess.

I agree Filmfreak11, I think that there have already been some hints that WDI is planning something like that for the long term. The land could very easily be adapted to be more broad than just 'Cars', but it also makes sense to stress that aspect of it while it's still a hot property, especially right after the second movie.

Any idea where the "semi blurry" photo may be? It would be interesting to know where they saw this activity going on. it must have been one of Imagineering's properties.

This concept kind of falls into what I've heard, as I mentioned earlier (#73). Expanding it would make it a bit more entertaining. The DSP version on #56 has the cars apparently spinning randomly. For the "tractor pull" to work, I would imagine that the tractors would have to constantly move in a "forward" motion, not spin.

But, the turntable system used would make sense for having a trailer being towed. It would need a totally flat surface for the trailer to roll smoothly on.

The "semi-blurry" photo is from one of the monitors at the entrance of the Blue Sky Cellar.

This is a great idea! DCA and Disneyland are going to be highly popular places in 2012.

Actually, I can't plan that far in advance. What I meant was: "I'm so there!"

It's funny that this technology exists. This basic concept is what I've been pushing for a Sleepy Hollow ride with guests riding in a carriage and being whipped around turns and bouncing over rough terrain. Glad to know it finally exists.

I think it would have a limited application for the kind of attraction you may be imagining. The type of ride may be able to be expanded by adding additional turntables, but the vehicles would essentially be just traveling back and forth within a limited path. Also, it's application would limit any props, sets and other themed environment within the turntables and clearance path around them.

What I envision your concept would be traveling over a distance through a tree filled themed environment. Kind of like the environment that Autopia travels through. If it were that kind of experience, a fast moving carriage whipping through the woods, I think it would be quite fun. But if it were just having the carriage spinning from turntable to turntable, I think it would lose most of it's enchantment.
