![]() | Astro Orbiter Moving? This could be completely wrong but it's an idea that crossed my mind. If you've seen recent updates of Tomorrowland, you'll notice that the astro orbiter has been walled off and essentially dismantled. The cosmic waves area has also been walled off and a trench has been dug surrounding the ball. Do you think that by any chance the astro orbiter is being moved to the location of cosmic waves? If you look at a google earth satellite view of tomorrowland, you'll notice that the area walled off around cosmic waves and the current astro orbiter space are almost identical in size. If this is what's happening (though this is merely a conjecture), what are your thoughts? |

![]() | Re: Astro Orbiter Moving? Hmm, interesting thought, but I don't think that is going to happen. The walkways in Tomorrowland are already pretty crowded as it is during busy days. If it were to be built right where Cosmic Waves use to be, you'd lose a pretty good amount of needed walking space.

![]() | Re: Astro Orbiter Moving? That's not the plan as far as we can tell - they have to take the Astro Orbiter apart to fix the motors for the kinetic sculpture on top, and the general 10-year major maintenance on the ride portion on the bottom. Oh, and they want to paint it in whites and light metallic tones instead of the brown and gold pallete, and that's easier when it is apart. If they were going to move Astro Orbiter anywhere, they would replace the gantry lifts and put it back up on the platform. And that isn't going to happen till they figure out what will go on the middle level first - if anything... (They could "top" it and build on the second level instead.) The Marble Ball for Cosmic Waves is still in place on it's pedestal, and securely covered against damage - if it was going away, that is the first piece they would pull off with a crane and remove for storage. It looks like they are reworking and/or removing the pumping system for the Marble Ball's "floating" water supply and replacing or removing the fountain elements underneath the surrounding 'ring' deck. Looks to me like they are removing the deck fountain parts entirely - they were taking all the electronic control boxes off the walls, and removing all the fountain heads. But they could put the squirting fountain system back together IF they meet the Health Department filtration requirements for a Public Pool, which is why the fountain was shut down a few years ago. Keep peeking over the walls and taking construction pictures as you wander by, folks, and if you see signs of new gear being installed get lots of close-ups from several angles. You might not know what you are looking at, but there are others here that will... ![]() --<< Bruce >>--

![]() | Re: Astro Orbiter Moving? No, very fair. We can't all be there every day. And most people haven't got a clue what that box the technician just put up on the wall does, because they have never seen one before - But I have... You put up the photos, and I'll be sure to tell you what I think they show. And I'm pretty good at figuring it out. --<< Bruce >>--

![]() And besides, I'm in Chicago, soon to be back in New York, so I'm as out of the loop as one can be when it comes to Disneyland Photography

Plus, the thread you are referencing is on page 6 now, so maybe the OP did search pages 2 and 3. Who knows. Who cares?

Especially if it's confirmation of news or rumors, and it's very recent. It's common board ... tac. But, either way, I said that as more of a helpful hint to the OP to 1) originate them with a feature of the board that they obviously didn't know about, and 2) to provide them a resource for more info/viewpoints, as they weren't likely to get 9+ pages of debate/information back and forth on a topic that was just so recently discussed at great length.
