They weren't creepy. It was a fun crowd. Lots of them were taking pictures of each other. The people in the particularly impressive outfits were out there taking their star turn. Some of them even brought their own photographers. It was a chance to see and be seen. It was fun.

Yeah, they were a lot of black, and make up. There is not a whole lot wrong with that. That is there idea of going out and having a good time, and its their idea of "normal." However, I understand that everyone's idea of "normal" is relative.
Whether or not it was intended, a lot of what your commentary came across as was mockery.
I didn't intend it to be mockery and I don't read it as such. It was supposed to be a humorous commentary by someone who knows nothing about Goths who is walking around commenting on what he sees. For us non-Goths, our observations of the event are understandly going to center around differences between Goth appearances and the rest of us. Personally, I thought the fact that they looked different was totally cool and I thought that came across in my commentary. It was a fun event and my commentary was intended that way.

The detail in some of the outfits was amazing. Yea. I noticed the spiderweb baby carrier too. I kept looking around in the pictures looking for interesting tattoos or details that I'd missed. They were all over the place.

I think the green and purple pair and the one with the bouffant hair (is that what it's called?) were the most jaw-dropping. When you first saw them you just couldn't help but go WOW! They were amazing and they'd put a lot of work into their outfits.

I screwed up most of the closeups but here's one which survived my aperture setting:

She has a little charm hanging from the stick (post?) in her hair. I think it's a picture of a cat. You really need to look at the original hi-res image to see it. You can see all of the highest-res versions of all the pictures in this gallery.

It was hard to see some of the details because some of it was black on black.

You can see some in a shot as she walked away.

Funny who you stumble across randomly in Disneyland pics. I went to high school with her. They are newlyweds.

Mr. Cuts A Fine Figure is very cool. He has so much flow to his figure like an animation drawing.

I think it's totally cool how people dress up to go to Disneyland! Especially Goth! Disneyland is great because it has a wide variety of interest from all walks to life! From Goth wear to Swing dancing outfits to dressing up in Red it makes Disneyland special...Just my 2 cents.

Great pictures and loved the commentary!

As someone who was formerly somewhat "Gothy" in the 80's, I found the captions to be inspired and hilarious.

Re: Extremely tardy Bats Day report

Remember when Disneyland enforced a decency dress code? Those were the days. Everyone is entitled to what they like and to have some fun with it, and I am not a prude. But clearly some of these outfits and the people wearing them were not appropriate for a Disney park!
PS: When we drove into the parking structure that day we asked a CM why it was so crowded and he said because of “bat day” – and we thought it was a promotion with the Angles – As in baseball bats being given away!

Re: Extremely tardy Bats Day report

As someone tragically unhip I absolutely enjoyed your photos and your commentary. The "We...Are...Not...Amused" group was perfect. Though I can remember the day Mr. Hammer and Sicle probably wouldn't have gotten inside the park. (%^$# Commie!)

I'm a little worried about the nice family from Poughkipsie who chose that day for their big trip to Disneyland.

Great pics and a great commentary. As a former 80's goth, your tone was fine, some people are just too easy to take offense.

Re: Extremely tardy Bats Day report

Just an FYI...the picture on the shirt and the word "OBEY" come from John Carpenter's movie "They Live" starring Rowdy Roddy Piper. It was a great little B-flick that came out in the 80s. It basically involved aliens blending into society by disguising themselves as humans, but when the protagonist puts on a special pair of sunglasses, he sees the aliens' faces (as shown on the shirt) and all the billboards are subliminal messages like "OBEY" and "DO NOT RESIST." Definitely worth checking out if you have a couple of hours to kill at home.

Loved the TR! Great commentary. My photographer friend appreciated the advice on setting his camera's resolution.

Re: Extremely tardy Bats Day report

Damn, you just beat me to that! I immediately recognized the t-shirt as well, "They Live" is one of those movies that was so bad it was good! And, to the purple and green dressed ladies, I think you are both incredibly beautiful!
