SOOOOOOOOOOO jealous you were at "Dunder Mifflin"!!!!!! I am giddy looking at the photos. ha! They DID use that iron gate in one episode, I believe. It's when they stayed late to work so they didn't have to come in on Saturday and they got locked in the parking lot. They had to call the security guard to let them out. I believe season 4. (Insert nerdy face here.)

Did they use one of those cars when they went to Utica?

I think I'm gonna go even ultra-nerdier on you and say that they used a different gate for that episode, I believe. IIRC, it had green panels over a chain link fence. ::checks out that part of the episode:: Okay, no green panels, but it was indeed a chain link fence. Ha! Out-nerded!

Well done co-nerd! haha! I wasn't sure, but, did know they were stuck behind a fence. I stand corrected.

If you're ever in Van Nuys, though, I definitely recommend checking it out. Saticoy Street.

Absolutely! I wish I'd known where it was located 3 weeks ago when I was in So. Cal. for DL. I'd have driven to Van Nuys to see that!!!! (Check sig line!) Huge fan. I would LOVE to see them filming. Do they close off the road for that?

Re: A different kind of trip report: Walt Disney Studios, WDI, and Dunder Mifflin!

That's a good question...I really don't know. I'd imagine they probably just keep the gate shut for the most part and let traffic pass by while they shoot inside or in the parking lot, and when they need to actually show the gate being open, they do it and close off part of the street. The street ends in a cul-de-sac just to the west of there - I think there's just one more building before it stops, so it's not like they'd be blocking off a lot of traffic.

They actually used Saticoy Street itself for the rabies awareness fun run, too. I'm sure they had to be careful about who was driving by during filming.

I'm envious of me, too! I want to go back! Haha, actually, I hope to at some point...my sister, the one who looked up the address for me, is a huge fan of the show, and I know it was killing her to not get to be there with us. I'm hoping to get to take her there sometime. And like I said...you should go, too! I hope you get a chance to. It's pretty surreal standing right there.

Wow, LOL I feel spoiled, I lived a few blocks from WDI(and my HS is literally 2 blocks from the studios) for 13 years! LOL and 8 of those years, I didn't even want to be a WDI! LMAO

I am totally going to go there when i visit in July! That is so awesome Data. Imagine if you worked in the building across the street, how cool that would be!

Im a big fan of the show, so that will be such a great edition to my birthday trip. Thanks Data!

I always enjoy pointing out SoCal street stuff in non-SoCal settings.
In The Office, for example, there are often very large mountains in the background, probably higher than any point in Pennsylvania.

(OK, I looked it up: highest peak in PA is Mt Davis at 3,213 ft 200 miles or so away from Scranton, and the highest point in the Verdugo Mountains is Verdugo Peak at 2859 ft., probably about 10 miles away from Dunder-Mifflin.)

I'm glad you're gonna get to go! Have fun. (And be careful - there are apparently two unconnected Saticoy Streets in Van Nuys. Gotta make sure you're on the right one.)
