Splash Mountain is the last thing that needs a refurbishment. On my last ride, I'm pretty sure it was my best ride on Splash in all of my times at Disneyland. It hasn't lost its thunder one bit.

Do they tone down the "splashy-ness" during the winter? I've always avoided it during December trips because I'm worried I'll freeze being soaked the rest of the day...

I've read that Tokyo Disneyland is able to regulate the "splashy-ness" of their Splash Mountain and adjust for seasonal temperatures. That's the only main thing I would change.

Actually they do. The water is pressure-controlled and regulated often. During summer, the water pressure is high, of course. So that you will definitely soaked, all the way up to your head to toe. When it is winter, Disney will tone down the water pressure and you will not get wet as much. If you want to ride at night and on winter. Go to the Critter Country store and tell them that you want waterproof plastic jackets and there you go.

It's more of who you have in your log VS the water pressure. And where you sit

Based on Winnie the Pooh and jamming the canoes into Critter country, I'd say splash in the only draw to critter country. OK, maybe the Pooh meet and greet too.

The sad thing is that there really isn't a lot of real estate to do much over there. Plus it's a dead end... although many go that way thinking they can somehow walk around the River to Frontierland. I've read countless concepts about tear this down, or rip that out, but there isn't really a lot of open space to put something over there. Since there isn't a lot there, any modifications to Splash would drastically effect the attendance to Critter Country... as evidenced by when Splash is in refurb (for anyone who hasn't seen it... the land is basically dead).

    Re: Splash Mountain Refurb

A long long time ago there was an article in Disneyana (I think) magazine that came out a year or so before the ride opened that had several construction photos from outside and inside Splash Mountian.

One of the things they talked about was how they were able to adjust the splash at the end of the drop to keep people from getting soaked on the big drop. Now I do not know if this was ever done or not, but it was thought of. (At least according to the article.)
