Claim: Walt Disney arranged to have himself frozen in cryonic chamber full of liquid nitrogen upon his death, and he now awaits the day when medical technology makes his re-animation possible.

Re: myth/legend is walt cryogenically frozen in disneyland

There is some truth to the rumor. After being diagnosed with lung cancer, Walt Disney did investigate the possibility of being cryogenically frozen until a cure for cancer could be found. At the time, he was deep in planning for Walt Disney World and, specifically, for EPCOT, his great, unfinished dream.

I think he must have known that his successors wouldn't be able to complete the project. In any case, the Disney family, which is very dignified and private, has said that Mr. Disney's body was cremated after he succumbed to death in the hospital across the street from the studio.

In 1966, cryogenics was in its infancy, so I am apt to believe that Walt Disney dismissed the notion because of this fact.

Re: myth/legend is walt cryogenically frozen in disneyland

Heh heh, that was a great episode. Robo-Walt hungers for Cuban orphans!

Seriously though, he's cryogenically frozen in a suspended animation chamber in a secret room underneath Star Tours (then Adventure Thru Inner-Space). Walt's family perpetrated the myth of his cremation in order to protect him from those that would fall out of money and ownership were he shown to be alive again.

Walt's ressurection would cause absolute chaos for the Disney company; the public would unequivocally rally around Walt and his opinions and wouldn't stop until he had complete control of the company again. Many powerful people would be very unhappy if Walt were alive somewhere, and in his current state it would be all too easy to engineer an "industrial accident" that would effectively take him out of the picture forever. Hence the coverup.

And also hence "cremation". The family didn't even have to find a Walt lookalike corpse. Nothing short of a full DNA test on a remaining bone fragment can prove that he's not there, and there's no way that his family's going to let THAT happen.

My prediction for his eventual resurrection is that he'll probably be shocked and dismayed by the current state of the world. This will last maybe a week or two, tops, until he accepts it. Then he'll be right back into the thick of it, single-handedly trying to make the world a better place.

Ever notice that we got a Californian King Arthur thing going on here? Just replace Camelot with Disneyland and Avalon with cryotubes and you're in business.

Some park guests actually ask if the Partners statue is Walt frozen on carbonite...

...that would be the most awesome thing in the world if it was.

Hmm, I like that theory too.

So is Mickey frozen there with him?

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
We still have 5 places available for our Lunch with Walt at the Tam O' Shanter Restaurant in Glendale, CA. (A place Walt and his crew favored for lunch so much that it was often referred to as "the Disney comissary.) Afterward, we are going to caravan the mile or so to Uncle Walt's final resting place at Forest Lawn. If you would like a nice meal in an historic venue followed by a visit to the real thing, please let me know.

I heard that tonight, in a private ceremony Michael Eisner was decapitated - his severed head frozen and placed inside a crate within the Matterhhorn, marked "Wells Expedition." I think someone got some pictures tonight...

Close. Actually, tonite Michael had an iced decaffinated cappuccino with a whipped cream head. He also ate a butterhorn and said it was, "Great!"

His head is actually at the studios lot in a secret room off the tunnel that links the old animation and production buildings.

I know it's true because a CM that works there told me so.
