![]() | Re: Disneyland 1970 Yeah, this is part of the HM Osmonds special. A great show. I've got the whole show on tape, I wish they'd put it out on DVD sometime.

![]() | Re: Disneyland 1970 It pisses me off to see all these specials uploaded on YouTube with that Mickey cable TV logo in the bottom corner. Where the hell was I when they aired all these specials??? I would have so dubbed them and burned them on DVD. WTF?!?! And do they still air them today on those channels, anyone seen them recently aired?

![]() That specific logo was a major influence in my childhood, it's the disney channel of the early 90's through I think the early 00's. The disney channel I am talking about is nothing like it's bastard cousin that is currently on the air. My disney channel never went any longer than a few hours without some kind of plug for the theme parks, an amazing block of vintage mickey cartoons, or a showing of one of the classic movies disney became famous for. And all of the time in between was filled with blocks of quality animated series' based on some of the monumentally successful animated movies that were being churned out during that period that is now known as "the disney renaissance." Then at night, the disney channel turned into a haven of vintage park footage like the Osmand's special, along with full episodes of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color and other vintage disney shows from the early years of television. Here's some more background info from tvtropes.org : ![]() "Disney's cable/satellite channel It initially started out as a dumping ground for productions Disney had little faith in. They were mixed with old theatrical shorts and the occasional movie. That said, many Eighties kids feel very nostalgic for these "What the Hell Programming Director" early days. It became a pretty good channel in the early 90's, when the channel started getting treated with more respect, with shows such as The New Mickey Mouse Club, Avonlea, In A Heartbeat and The Famous Jett Jackson. Then, someone in the company had the idea for Lizzie Mc Guire. Its success led Disney to create more and more preppy teen sitcoms where the idealism is cranked up to eleven and the laugh track never stops. After years of this happening, Disney Channel has become a shell of its former self. And while some kids can still enjoy the really cheesy humor the shows have, it just isn't the same anymore." Isn't it a shame? | |

![]() | Re: Disneyland 1970 The Disney Channel of the 1980's was better, it was a premium channel, no different than HBO or Showtime during that era... or as Disney would call it, that "ear-a". It showed movies almost nonstop and had great kids shows like Dumbo Circus, The Racoons, Pooh Corner, and You and Me Kid. It also had the Mickey Mouse Club at 5:00 pm and showed classic cartoons. And in the early morning they succumbed to one of the most unforgivable 80's trends: aerobics, but more specifically "Jazzercise". The Disney Channel called it "Mousercise", but it was really cool during that time. The 80's were a more health-conscious era (at least on the surface), people ate nothing but frozen yogurt and carried sports bottles of water... bottled water was still a decade away. And espresso and specialty coffees were balked at, NO ONE would pay more than $2 for coffee back then. I liked the 1990's Disney Channel, especially Vault Disney, but it was more watered down than the original channel. I *really* miss both versions of the channel today though. That 12-year old girl nonsense about "you can be whatever you want" just drives me crazy. Those same girls are going to be working at Burger King in 6 years wondering why they aren't a rock star or princess yet. There's a difference between idealistic and just plain nonsense. The old Disney taught kids that it was okay to dream and think big for the future, but it kept it grounded in hard work. This new Disney Channel raises pre-teens' expectations so high on life that they are going to be seriously bummed to find out they'll barely be able to afford a tank of gas in their 1992 Honda after working half a day and having half their paycheck go to taxes and social services. Give me the 1983-2001 Disney Channel ANY day over this empty shell that dares to call itself "Disney Channel"! |

![]() | Re: Disneyland 1970 I love watching these. Thank you for posting. There's so much to see on YouTube and I've only knicked the top of the barrel. People back then seem to be so happy and entertained it's amazing. Plus I love how everyone dressed up. I kinda wish it was still like that, in a way. My ultimate wish would be to go back in time and visit Disneyland throughout the years... 1955, 1957, 1967, 1970, etc. I can only imagine how awesome it'd be to meet Walt and walk the same walkways 40 years in advance with the thoughts of what's to come in the future. |

![]() | Re: Disneyland 1970 I totally agree with all the comments about the "old" disney channel. Im guessing that you guys are in your 20's as am i and grew up watching those shows. Now i do realize that when you're younger you find things funny and entertaining that you wouldnt so much when you're older, but i know there is no way in hell OUR disney channel show were as cheesy and sold out as todays are. "Athlonacon" is spot on with his post. I LOVED watching Pooh Corner, Dumbo Circus and Fraggle Rock (Anyone remember that as well?!) I also can remember my mom working out to the "mousercise" episodes when i was a little kid. Ahhh the good ole days. haha |
