Minor Central Coast Representation at DCA

I live on the Central Coast of California, which currently doesn't even have a punny name on a shuddered restaurant in DCA.

I once made some joking suggestions, like the Lompoc "Go to Wal-Mart" Ride, because that was the most exciting thing to do in Lompoc.

However, now I have a couple minor, genuine suggestions on how to bring representation of this area into the park.

- Santa Maria-Style Barbeque. Santa Maria, (where I lived until my recent move to Arroyo Grande) is famous for one thing. No, not the Jackson trial. Okay, two things...that and barbeque.

It is a small triangular muscle, usually 1.5 to 2.5 lbs. (675 to 1,150g) per side of beef. In the United States, this cut was typically used for ground beef or sliced into steaks until the late 1950s, when it became a local specialty in Santa Maria. "Santa Maria Style" barbecue is usually used in reference to the seasoning of tri-tip or other meats (most notably top sirloin, or "top block") when rubbed with salt, pepper, and spices and cooked whole on a rotisserie or grilled over local red oak wood. The side dishes complimenting a typical "Santa Maria Style" barbecue generally consist of garlic bread, pinquito beans, and a salad.
How about a restaurant or even a small stand that serves this?

- "Retheme" the flower beds by Boutiful Valley Farm to Lompoc. The town where I grew up was once the flower seed capital of the world (or so we were told in school). How exactly this would be done, I don't know, but it would be nice to have at least a subtle reference to Lompoc in there .

I could also see a cute old-time beach town area based on Pismo Beach or other area beach towns, which could transition from Paradise Pier and be the home of a surfing-themed attraction.

The Central Coast will never get recognition, sorry. I love the central coast and def think it deserves it but it will never happen. Its to difficult to explain to people from out of California what the central coast is. The best you will ever get is maybe, maybe, a reference to the Hertz Castle in SLO. But with the ten year plan out and nothing on it, I doubt you will get any representation.

Well, CenCal is definetly a vacationing hotspot for alot of bakersfieldians. I've been to Pismo, lompoc, Santa Maria area numerous times, and it really is an awesome spot. I think you are right that they do need to incorporate this into DCA. What about the area from the bountiful bounty farm, to the wine country trattoria, overlooking the bay? It would help slowly change the scenery from agriculture, to the beach, since, CenCal has both...Possibly change the Trattoria to a more CenCal menu, (ala Tri Tip, CenCal wines, etc..)

I went to high school in Santa Maria (Righetti) and I honestly cannot think of anything they could do at DCA to celebrate or represent that city.

Big Sur Madness would be an amazing attraction. You're driving along Hwy 1, when Suddenly! Something goes wrong. Your car goes off road, you escape death and cruise through the redwood forest and the beaches.

How about the thing I said in the first post?

A full fledged attraction or sub-land would never work, but what's wrong with a little barbeque stand?

I would totally go on that

Does the Santa Maria Tri-Tip at Ariel's Grotto count? (It's quite delicious.)

There ya go! ^

Since DCA is pretty much going away from everything that represents California, im not sure than they're going to add more California theming though. More like take more away i'd think.

That's a dreadful pun. Simply dreadful. I'd chastise you further, but we're heading off to spend the Memorial Day weekend in futuristic Morro Bay, which is filled with people named Tom.

Speaking of thematic crossovers, the inland Southern Section of the Central Coast is where Fess Parker (Davy Crockett) has his vineyard and winery.

Hmm. I thought that Santa Maria was the Vampire Capital of the World. At least according to the original "The Lost Boys" Movie.
