Adventure thru Inner Space done in Sketch-up!
Sketch-up is a free, 3d modeling software released by Google, for those who don't know. Now that that's out of the way...
Largely inspired by (and after buying a copy of!) Steve Wesson's ride through of ATIS, I decided I wanted to make my own. The only official blueprint I had was a very low resolution floorplan, and the rest was based off of photos. I decided not to include the Atommobiles so that it would be easy to walk through without obstruction. I will soon have a link where you all can download the model and explore it for yourselves, but until then, here are some screenshots:

I would have modeled more of the hanging matter, but I made this towards the end and I didn't want it to lag due to the high face amount.

Array of water molecules:

What you see is what you get here, there really is just a bunch of those molecules one behind the other.

The dashing electrons were done in an interesting way: I made two versions of the texture, each with a different pattern, and then applied both textures to the face of wall so that the two textures flashed between each other repeatedly, thus creating a dashing effect.

Unfortunately, I could not get ahold of any pictures of the particular displays, but if anybody would be willing to donate one, it would be much obliged :)

Wow! That is really cool! I love Google Sketch-up, easy and free 3-D modeling!
Do you have download link for this file in the 3-D warehouse?
Never mind, re-read your post!

Very nicely done! :D Congrats on an excellent job, and thank you for posting it.
Re: Adventure thru Inner Space done in Sketch-up!
Seriously I wish this attraction were still here. Why Tomorrowland needs to be mainly about Space is beyond me. I'd love to see more science!!

I eat this stuff up! Any other sources of virtual ride-ons?

RideTech.. Although this guy is more interested with the application he does a pretty good job creating a Virtual Disneyland:

Re: Adventure thru Inner Space done in Sketch-up!
Thanks for posting that! Yep, my videos do provide some ride-through-like glimpses of some of the attractions. None of them are at all complete inside, as I've been focusing more on the backstage areas than the onstage ones, but there's still a fair amount there. This playlist contains all my virtual tour videos so far. :)

This is where, as I said, I got the inspiration from: ATIS CGI RIDE-THRU PROJECT And I have to admit that it's a lot better than mine.
I highly suggest buying the DVD.
Re: Adventure thru Inner Space done in Sketch-up!
Ellis - Nice job with that! Add me to the list of folks who miss Monsanto. Best make out ride EVER. :)

T-Land needs to go Sci-Fi.
Not a huge Sci-Fi person
but technology moves so fast these days, you can't create a land about it.
Sure it worked 50-70's
but in the year 2,000 (sorry just wanted to hear Conan's voice sing in my head)
what is new next week, will be old the next day.
Sci-Fi (like the movies) is generally stuff that is so obscure, we generally wouldn't be trying to make it, so T-land would be able to survive for awhile.
Things like ATIS aren't in danger of being "old". Just like Star Wars.

I don't think they need to go sci-fi necessarily, but they definitely need to turn to sci-fi for inspiration. Sci-fi looks ahead and pushes the boundary of what can be done. They invent new ideas and terms.
Disney needs to do the same, they need to look way far ahead. They need to use their technical know-how to make the illusion of the future real. It would be so infinitely better than the ridiculous Best Buy they have in there now.
