Oh yeah- awesome photos! I really like the one of Cruella, the balloons, and the two monorail shots over the sub lagoon.

Great pictures! DL is the perfect place to test a new camera : )
Very good news to hear about the refurbishments on the river. Would be nice if they would also fix the rapids, which weren't working the last few times I've gone on the Mark Twain.
yeah i saw that through the tram area a couple of days ago....it would be nice if you could ride it again.
but i bet they are just painting it =/
i hope they put it back in service

Great shots. Always love seeing backstage stuff.
That looked like John Lasseter in the front of the Monorail.
Eddie: You mean to tell me you could have taken your hand out of those cuffs at any time?
Roger: Not at any time. Only when it's funny.

It's good to hear Disneyland is fixing up the props along The Rivers of America; Though Gullywhumper (and Bertha Mae) we're once much more than props. I miss the Keelboats plying The Rivers of America. The origional Keel boats were the actual boats from the Davy Crockett TV show. Walt Disney was proud of those boats. Too bad the Pressler Years cutbacks killed off the Keel Boats.
Gullywhumper is back on the Rivers of America!
I did not know the boats were from the actual show. If that's true then wow... as to the "cutbacks"...
There are several site you can cross-reference, as well as comments on here. The basic issue was that the CM's heavily loaded the top of the Keelboat, then made a series of sharp turns in the rapids. The sharp turns weren't "authorized" but were a common way to simulate the twists and turns of being in rapids. But because the boat was already top-heavy the maneuvers made it splash down sideways (not a full capsize). I believe it operated for a very brief time after the accident and was then closed for good... honestly can't remember. Like I said the information is out there and readily available.

I can't believe they used to have Cruella as a rubber-face character. What a missed opportunity!
I think it was both of these things. The keelboats flipped over because of their design flaws and capacity issues. So then Disney had the option of fixing the keelboats and continuing the expense of operating them, or scrapping them and keeping the profit. This being the Pressler Era... they did the latter.
I'll admit I was a tad disappointed when I first opened this thread - I thought the Keelboat ride was actually returning to the river! Maybe someday...
wow. i hope it is true that they are going to fix the little mine train. it really is rotting away. i hope the little gophers poke up again. Also they need to bring back the straching bear!!
