Marketing just does their thing no matter what. That often results in projects being short cut, rushed or even modified to fit marketing purposes instead of original creative intent.

Not really. I was expecting some sort of mechanical issue with the Dragon for a while, but I didn't expect it to break down 4 days before it's debut. Hopefully they'll burn moonlight to get the dragon fixed ASAP.

not to be mean but sometimes I strive to discover any intent or thought that was put into some attractions.

I also don't believe in purely blaming marketing... many concepts are heavily laden with marketing ploys just to get the green light to begin with. You can't blame marketing if the creativity is stripped out before it even gets there.

They could have delayed the Summer Nightastic Campaign when the Dragon is completely tested and ready. Even with the head falling off when operated. A bit too early to start campaign when a flaw happens.

Techno-dependence rears its ugly head. This is why simpler is sometimes better. Sure, the head on a stick may not have been as impressive as a fully AA dragon, but it worked reliably for 15 years. The tall Maleficent was a failsafe used infrequently. I think we're going to start seeing it a lot more often now.

In fact, it's already happening. The LA Times article just said we'll have tall Maleficent until further notice. This may be one time where I'd vote for Omnimovers on Indy.

I think it sucks since the Dragon is the only new thing I REALLY want to see...the other new effects are cool but the Dragon is what would make me wait and see the first show.

They want to Promote Disneyland how could that be a setup for failure. Fantasmic has been reimagined so boo hoo if they do not have the Dragon on the few couple shows. There are still the eels and the croc and Many locals haven't visited Disneyland for years. It was just last year that they added New Fireworks and HD projectors. I think that Dragon might be delayed but way shorter than we might think. We all have to have a little patience and believe in the magic.

What Disney needs to do is forget about returning it to the original outsourced manufacturer and ship straight to WDI for repair and modification. Make the manufacturer pay for the mistake and get it back up and running soon.
