Part II: More 500 mm shots...

One of the first places I always head to, now that it has opened again, is the Sun Wheel Mickey's Fun Wheel. It offers great views of both Disneyland and DCA. A quick tip for those of you who are into photography....If you use a telephoto and pull in tight on a subject from the Fun Wheel, the gondola screen will usually disappear, as long as the sun isn't hitting the screen directly. This is a shot of the Matterhorn at 500 mm. I like how you can actually see the bobsleds from the Fun Wheel:

    Here's a few more with the 150 - 500 from the Wheel:

I messed around on photoshop with this one...

This was taken from just in front of the Main Street Train Station...

And this one from next to the Celebrate envelope on Main Street, waiting for the Street Party...

The fence walk on the South side of the parking lot....

    Another shot from the Hilton...

And finally, a shot of Disneyland from the hills above Brea. It was still a bit murky after the low clouds had burned off, so I need to try this on a clear day. For those of you who are familiar with the area, these were taken just below the dump....

(More to come. Up next: Night Shots)

    Mac Daddy,

That panoramic photo from the Hilton is one of the most interesting DL photos I've ever seen.

    Keep up the good work!

That Mary Poppins is the best I've seen. She's really pretty. I don't even like Mary Poppins, so that's a pretty big compliment from me.

Can someone tell me......probably super obvious....do the dancers wear wigs?

    Re: Mac Daddy's Spring/Summer 2009 Photo Extravaganza

    FANTASTIC Pics!!! Thanks!

I was wondering why they didn't have a cold air inflatable or even a REAL hot air baloon for this movie ~ it seemed like a natural, since so many other Disney movies have had them in DTD. Glad to see they got one, even if a little late.

The only thing that is a little odd, is that the house is not setting flat on the ground. Just seems to throw off the feng shui. BUT . . . .

Here's a shot of the UP inflatable out in the Esplanade....

    Part III - Night Shots

So back on May 29th, I finally got another chance to stay late at the park for some night shots as the kids were at Grandma's again for the night. So I took the tripod and headed to the park, arriving by around 11:00 PM. I headed to Tommorrowland first...

...and experimented a bit with the shutter speed...

I was going for something different here, but this would be one of the subs hitting the falls...

Then it was off to Frontierland...

where I took several shots of the ROA. The water was like glass as there had been no activity on the river for quite awhile. I took these shots at different exposures, and I think I might like the lighter one better. (Try the higher res versions for full effect. )

I continued on through NOS, past the Haunted Mansion...

...down around Fowler's Harbor. The path behind over to Critter Country is one of my favorite spots at night...

...because it offers some great views of Splash Mountain...

I kind of like this one. Whose hands are those?

I stopped in Critter Country for a couple of shots...

...when I noticed that they were setting up for Fantasmic testing as it was now after 12 AM...

The Mark Twain was parked on the other side of TSI waiting for it's cue. The red line in front would be one of the rafts heading back toward the Hungry Bear....

As I headed back toward NOS, I noticed several techs running around and the Light Poles were already up. It was now about 12:20 and they were already testing some of the water cues out in the River....

It was right about this time that one of the techs noticed my camera. This was either right before or right after the incident with the dragon, and the tech wasted no time in telling me that Disneyland was now closed and that I really needed to head to main street. I apologized and told her I was leaving, and headed up to Adventureland, where I slowed down to put away my tripod. As I was finishing, I glanced back out of curiosity and noticed that she had followed me...to make SURE that I didn't get any shots of anything else that was going on that night. How could she not trust me?

So...realizing that my time had run out, I headed through a now deserted Adevntureland...

    ...back to Main Street:

    (Next up: More Night Shots)
