That last shot is one of the bests that I've ever seen of SB's Castle.

Part II: More 500 mm shots...

One of the first places I always head to, now that it has opened again, is the Sun Wheel Mickey's Fun Wheel. It offers great views of both Disneyland and DCA. A quick tip for those of you who are into photography....If you use a telephoto and pull in tight on a subject from the Fun Wheel, the gondola screen will usually disappear, as long as the sun isn't hitting the screen directly. This is a shot of the Matterhorn at 500 mm. I like how you can actually see the bobsleds from the Fun Wheel:

This photo really impacts the eye. Am fascinated over the unique way you compacted the flora, the Matterhorn and the Astro Orbitor into th shot. You seem to have found a cool manner of adding to the fun of Mickey's fun wheel...especially when it comes to waterfalls and bobsleds.

Oh! The shimmering bedazzlement of it all.

The red tented lighting effect here is stunning. Very nice work!

    Part IV: More Night Shots

After I was invited to leave Frontierland, : I headed back out to Main Street where I knew they usually let you linger until 1 AM. I kept taking shots with the tripod as I worked my way back up Main Street....

As I recall, these two clock photos were taken within about 10 minutes of each other, so I'm thinking that the one on the pole was about three hours off. Hmmm...

Whenever I get the chance, I love to try to be one of the last few guests to leave the park. I was expecting the official Disney voice to announce that it was officially time to leave, so I set to work trying to get some shots of a nearly empty Main Street...

Except this time there was no announcement, nor security making a final sweep at 1am. So...um...I took a seat up in the bench area in front of the Main Street Train Station, and just kept shooting.

I was just taking some final shots, when suddenly the sky lit up over the castle, and the spots began moving around the line that Tinker Bell usually flies under.

I kept taking shots, and after a bit, I could see that they were doing some type of target practice on something...possibly the apparatus that Dumbo flies under. Here's a closer cropped shot of the Matterhorn:

It was now around 1:20 AM, and I was very tempted to see just how long I could manage to sit unnoticed at the Train Station, but I suddenly hit a wall and realized I still had to drive home.

    So....home I went.

To round off this section, here's just a few more night shots taken this past Sunday night, 6/14/09. These were taken with my Panasonic Lumix LX3, which does a pretty respectable job of shooting in low light without a tripod and also has a wider lens than most point and shoots. I hope to return a few more times this Summer with the Nikon to try to get some higher quality shots.

Last Sunday, 6/14/09, we tried to hit all of Summer Nightastic in one night. We started in DCA...

...and managed to get a quick ride on Screamin (10 min wait as the parade was starting) before catching a few shots of the Electrical Parade...

We then booked it across the Esplanade to grab some quick seats for the fireworks...

And stayed just long enough to see Dumbo before racing back to the Main Street Train station to take the next train in to New Orleans Square in order to grab a spot for the 10:30 showing of Fantasmic. We missed the dragon, of course, but the rest of the show was amazing as always.

    Flotsam and Jetsam were great...

    The crock was much improved...

And the whole show was spectacular. This was the first time two of my kids had seen it, and they agreed it was awesome.

Again, I hope to take the Nikon it at some point and get a better spot. But overall, I was happy with the shots I was able to get with the Lumix, which ain't bad for a point and shoot.

One final shot of one of the most spectacular scenes of the night:

    Laker Castle!

    (More to come...)

This made me SO happy! This is our friend Jared. My GF and I vacationed in DL for my birthday in July 08. Everything during our trip had gone wrong (1 day for the price of 3 YAY!) Jared on the last morning of our vacation, seeked us out in the park, set up to have a CM escort us around the park VIP, arranged priority seating for any show in the park (Fantasmic!, Billy Hill, etc) and joined us for a M&G with my GF favorite princess backstage, and several attractions around the park. We had the most amazing day, and it all his fault!

Jared is one of those exceptional people that deserves nothing but good karma! I have the best memories of CMs in DL, and Jared is the BEST OF THE BEST!

If anyone knows him personally, PLEEZ pass this along.

Great shot of that award winning smile!

Mac Daddy, thanks again for another jaw-dropping installment of your photo update. Man, I thought I was getting better at photography, but I've just been pwnd!

I love the shots of the new Electrical Parade and of the lights in Paradise Pier at night. So beautiful! And I can't believe you tried the Nightastic tri-fecta last Sunday night. And succeeded! Great job!!!
One of the first places I always head to, now that it has opened again, is the Sun Wheel Mickey's Fun Wheel. It offers great views of both Disneyland and DCA. Ahh! Now I have to try this. I've always wondered how people were getting the gondola screen to "disappear" in their Sun Wheel photos. It seemed that I always had better luck bringing my P&S and poking it's tiny lens between the screen vs. my dSLR. Thanks for the tip Mac Daddy!

P.S. And I can't wait to see your shots of the Lakers parade!
