Magic Shop's Future in Jeopardy

I was in the parks today and, as I always do, made a special trip to the Magic Shop on Main Street. I asked if they had a certain item in and the CM replied: "No. Well, the real answer is yes, we do carry them, but we are out. And I don't know when we will get more in. Or if we will get more in. Of them or anything else."

I asked if the magic shop might be leaving us and he responded with a sad nod and said it's definately possible.

First of all, this is one of the few shops left at Disneyland where it sells special merchandice. It's not like every other store at the resort. Secondly, how much more retail space will they gain by expanding hats and t-shirts into that tiny aisle of a store? I would hate to see the magic shop do a dissapearing act.

Re: Magic Shop's Future in Jeopardy

The Magic Shop is the last truly victorian shop. Yeah, some of those tricks are *that* old. It's a very fun shop and is featured in that 50th movie they're going to play as part of the Disneyland Story. It would be really stupid for them to remove it. Seems likely.

Re: Magic Shop's Future in Jeopardy

Since it will be featured in the 50th film, it seems as though it will stay. Perhaps the sakes clerk was either paranoid...or else pulling a prank. We'll have to wait and see here.

Re: Magic Shop's Future in Jeopardy

Well, the 50th film is gone and Disney does have a history of ousting specialty stores. I can see where the store takes a little more to run than the average retail, seeing as the CMs need to be trained on the tricks. My biggest concern is not just losing the Magic Shop, but other areas as well. We all know WDW has lost their fire house and cinema, I think retail spilling into the magic shop would be a sign of things to come.

The 50th movie is rumored to return as part of The Disneyland Story with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln opening later this year.

As if the ability to edit a film doesn't exist? The 50th film was made 6+ years ago... that's a long time ago to be basing the future on.

It'll need a catchy magicky reference, like "Don't Let the Magic Shop Disappear!" or "Watch Me Pull the Magic Shop Out of Your Ear!" Wait, scratch that last one...

It is just a rumor... but I would be sad to see it go since it is one of the few specialty shops left (even tho' I HATE magic).

Re: Magic Shop's Future in Jeopardy

I want to see the magic shop stay. As a kid, that was one of the first store I ever bought something at. And as other have mentioned, it's one of the few shops that does carry it's own unique merchandise. Didn't the Magic Shop discontinue a whole line of magic tricks, too, I remember another topic mentioning this, but don't know if it was confirmed.

Main Street losing it's Magic?!?!? They HAVE to keep a Magic Shop in Walt's original Magic Kingdom!!! Let's hope management sees the need to keep this important piece of Main Street!

Re: Magic Shop's Future in Jeopardy

Too many rumors to many of them and sadly too many cast members do not know the correct information (Like I was at the store in front of the Gates and the lady told me the dragon had the swine flu that pissed me off it even scared a little boy who overheard the conversation and the boy asked if she is going to die geesh people need to watch what they say)

Re: Magic Shop's Future in Jeopardy

Hmm well I hope it's not true. I can't see there being a great benefit in getting rid of it. And it's one of the few places where you can find unique merchandise...if they honestly kicked all the magic out (hah), all they would do is put in the same over-used merchandise that you can find all over the rest of the park. Utter waste.

The park needs more unique offerings.
