When it really comes down to it, its basically the same thing just more $. I mean the DL hotel is not uncomfortable or dirty, and basically in hotels you just take showers, sleep and watch some tv right? So why pay extra to do all that in the GC?
Grand Californian, no question. Expensive, but worth it.
The Disneyland hotel is way overated. The rooms are way to small for the price.
"What single word is the name of a magazine, a cereal, a board game, and a never-ending series of soul-crushing disappointments which slowly leech away your hope and idealism until you are nothing more than a bitter husk of a man?"
I have stayed at both hotels and they are both very nice hotels. But if I had to pick one I would say Grand Califorinan is a better hotel. It is closer to main gate, and the hotel is just beautiful. When you walk into the lobby it is breathtaking. The rooms are really nice and since the hotel is newer all the firnishings are new.
We (5 of us) have stayed in both hotels. I took a quick poll and everyone voted GCH overwhelmingly. The rooms are a nice size, the pool has a slide, and you can walk right into DCA from the hotel. They have a turn down service. Chocolates on the pillow, etc. It is definetly pricey, but very nice.
I has been a long time since I stayed in the DL Hotel, so I can't compare. I did think that the room was kind of small in the GCH. Everything else was very nice and worth it for a special occasion.
How does the Paradise Pier compare to the other two?
I haven't stayed in any (dlh, gch or pph) but Im REALLY looking forward to going in Nov! (see signature) Just staying at ANY hotel and going someplace like disneyland the next day is a good vacation for me (and I go to D-land at least every 2 weeks!). But then again, I can be very happy with very little materialistic things.
If I am not mistaken, DLH has smoking areas and rooms and GCH does not. One might want/need to take that into consideration.
GCH all the way. And if you ever get the time and opportunity to take the tour, do so. The service, the look, the feel, is superb, and again, it's a lot closer.
I've stayed at both, if you have kids - DLH, if not GCH!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,it's what they are like in their HEART!

I agree GC is wonderful for young adults but the DLH is more themed for kids. Also I love the GC during the winter/holiday months it seems a little out of character in 80 degree weather. Where I stay depends on the season.
Between the two, I liked Grand Californian. One of the nicest lobbies I have ever seen.
(However, between the THREE hotels, I prefer the Paradise Pier Hotel. Best price, big rooms, nice view and theming.)
Grand Californian all the way! If you can afford it go for it. My husband and I stay there all the time, it'll be the sixth time this November! Great customer service, non-smoking, extremely close to the parks! You won't be disappointed you stayed there!
You bring up an excellent point--some areas of the lobby of GCH are such that if your kids are noisy, it gets really noisy--it just echoes all over the place. It drives the front desk folks nuts. I guess it was an unintended side effect of the design and materials.Originally Posted by wolfy999
Wotan, is it me , or do you find the children at the GCH seem more calm than at the DLH? Maybe it's because of all the character theming at DLH, too much sensory overload? I for some reason don't notice the children as much at the GCH, weird... Just my thought.
