Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

Could someone please summarize what we hope would happen in phase 2?

This is what I think so far:

1. Wrap Around Boardwalk around Fun Wheel
2. Eastern PP retheming (CA Screamin' queue and carousel cover)
3. Removal of GSS
4. Removal of Maliboomer
5. Hollywoodland placemaking
6. Removal of extreme sports referneces in Grizzly Peak and addition of animatronic animals.

Does this sound about right or should I be adding/removing things from this list?

Again, this is what I think would happen in Phase 2 -- if there is one of course.

The OP lists Maliboomer removal as slated for late 2011. I believe that is in Phase 1?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

As been said MANY times, the boardwalk around the FunWheel WILL NOT happen as the projectors are in the way of there being any room for a wrap around. Now they most likely will change the Queue and the mirrors, but there will not be a boardwalk, there just simply is not room.

No boardwalk is absolutely fine. I will be angered if they keep that cement pit, however.

Without the cement pit the queue would flood...

I don't think he meant removing the pit. I think he meant giving it a Victorian theme rather than a "concrete inner-city" theme.

Yes, sorry I should have explained that.

7. 'Mine Train through Natures Wonderland' around Grizzly Peak.
8. New Hollywoodland E-ticket. (Great Movie Ride? Trackless? Something else?)

After seeing the new Hong Kong Concept Art, I want the Grizzly Gulch Coaster! It's a bit like Big Thunder, but so much cooler looking!

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

I have a feeling that although the Maliboomer is slated for removal in 2011, it will be pushed back to a later date.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

Not sure how many of you folks were paying attention today but among the explansion plans for HKDL is a Grizzly Peaks area with a version of Grizzly River Rapids except instead of a raft ride its a big thunder coaster style ride. They mention it will have Bear AA's among other things and it just seems to me the Imagineers came up with this as an excuse to get AA's to DCA's Grizzly peak area since the only way anything gets greenlit at Disney now adays is if it can be clonned.

So is the plan to add Bear AA's to Grizzly River rapids back in the plan?

It was intended for phase 1, however it was pushed
back to phase 2 of the park expansion.

That's of course, if there will be a phase 2
if phase 1 should succeed.

TECH STUFF!!! (or, yet another slow news week on the platform)

These pictures were taken last Friday, 6/26/09. The whole gallery of pictures can be found here. Click on any of the pictures below to see the full resolution original. This week was boring. Personally, I'd skip this post and relive last week's thrill-a-minute post about really big wire.

Previous tech stuff posts can be found here:
  • 4/9/09 #1: DuraGrate.
  • 4/9/09 #2: BoatFloaters!!! Oboy!!!
  • 4/25/09: Fun with serial numbers.
  • 5/15/09: First semi-offical Tech Stuff post.
  • 5/22/09: Big tanks appear!!! BTW, they're probably water cannons - not fireball generators. Bugger.
  • 5/29/09: June gloom edition. BTW, the telescoping Chernibog thingie may be a hydraulic gizmo which expands vertically. So it may be the actuator which actually makes the thing extend vertically.
  • 6/5/09: Pipes, pipes, pipes.
  • 6/19/09: OMGTRBW!!!

Let's take a spin on the Golden Zephyr and peer into the other side of wall avenue.

These were from last Friday so there was still a little of the Dinosaur left. Since then, he's gone the way of the Dodo birds. Or would that be the way of the rest of the Dinosaurs?

And yes, I know these pictures are tilted. Next time I'll try to keep them straight. It's a little embarassing to frame improperly while shooting from a kiddy ride. Maliboomer, I could see. Golden Zephyr, ackkk!

They're working on the towers quite a bit. Well, at least it's something to watch.

Due to the lack of real content, we will now watch a bunch of people walk across the platform in a serpentine fashion. Feel free to create your own captions.

Wasn't that fun?

They're working on the connections to the backstage area under the bridge to Screamin'.

And the best part is that we got another look at some RBW (really big wire).

Oh. And after reading this article there seems to be a possible explanation for our insulated plastic pipe. The insulation is probably there to keep the pipe's contents cool or hot. One way to make lots of high-quality fog is to inject cooled nitrogen into some water-saturated air. That's a possible use for our mysterious insulated platic pipes.

New hookups! Oboy!

At least they're doing something on the platform.

They're making connections between the air manifolds connected to the blue pipes and the air inputs on the vertical jets. Basically, the two valves on each jet look air-powered and this is to provide the air supply to operate those two valves. Each of the two currently unconnected inputs on each jet controls one valve. We're still debating what the second valve on the vertical jets is for. The jets appear to operate in a continuous "squirter" mode with the water provided by the pumps. But there's a second valve and connection which is not yet connected to anything and we've had various explanations for what they might be.

It's also worth pointing out that last week's four-lobed control boxes are nowhere to be seen. Since they hefted them up onto the platform, I'd assume that they moved them into our three large control room boxes. But they're not visible so that's just a guess.

Well, that's it. Bye now.

Perhaps you should start a Phase 2 speculation thread.. might get a lot of good answers in there since nothing will even be announced about Phase 2 for a long while, it would certainly be off topic here and may confuse new readers.
