someone in another site gave a pretty good idea of what they could use. That person said that maybe they will use a similar idea as the water goddess in the TDS show.

That could very well be the reason for the telescoping column that we saw positioned in the pit at the back of the stage

You eventually must have standards of intelligence you are aiming for. When someone has an entertainment guide, plus god knows how many descriptions everywhere, plus recorded spiels playing, etc... and they confuse a 5 minute fountain with something described completely differently. Well... Disney can't fix stupid people.

Let 'em rot and when they found out they missed it, they'll pay to come back.

quarterly shows sound like to much of a problem. If they were to have quarterly shows they would have to leave the platform at show level most of the day. That would mean that mechanism and platform would only be a couple inches from the surface and be visible to guests all day.

Raising the platform and lowering them for quarterly shows constantly would not be practical. My guess is that something so big will also be raised and lowered slowly.

I could actually see them using it for cross promotion when the land or the movie premier.

My hope is that they keep this show fresh and every four year sor so that they change scenes and effects. The infrustructure is in place it would just be a matter of creating the new animation and programing for the new segments
Didn't Steve Davison mention that the show will take months to program? If that's the case, it probably would take a long time just to add a scene, wouldn't it? But I guess Fantasmic! goes dark for a while on occasion, and the lagoon could stay filled, so it probably wouldn't affect guests that much.

I do agree with you... but of course, I also know some people who said the only ride at Epcot was Test Track. But my problem with the daytime shows is I think the nighttime show should be a complete surprise. It should incur excitement as soon as the first fountain shows up, instead of being "Oh, that's what I saw earlier." Like something appeared at the lagoon just for the show.

Well I was just speculating, but there is a rising stage, the gap on the extension is a stage, but for what I have no idea.

About the telescoping thingy, I don't know the technical term, remember the concept art of Buzz Lightyear and Zerg, it appears that Zerg's top section is an actual piece while water makes up the rest, so basically his waistline up is solid figure while below is water. Could this be what the telescoping is for?

I agree. It saddens me when people think Disney needs to dumb things down to be accessible to some perceived lowest common denominator.

The BoatFloaters are going to be doing most of the work of lifting and lowering the platform. Videos of the BoatFloaters in action lifting boats are indeed slow. But that's because they're using little bitty air pumps to lift large boats. If the sealed black tanks are to move the platform closer to neutral buoancy (which makes lots of sense) then the platform will go up and down more like a submarine. They go up and down very quickly with small changes in buoyancy (as a kid I built lots of R/C models including a functioning 6' submarine). The platform has more drag than a sub hull but it will probably still move up and down pretty quickly with just moderate amounts of air pumped in and released from the BoatFloaters.

I think it's just a matter of whether they're willing to spend the air on it. Making it move faster just means using more air.

edit:
The other surface/submerge mode is that they use the BoatFloaters to maintain neutral buoyancy and use the bidirectional cylinders on the scissor platforms to move it up and down rather than using them as position maintainers with the BoatFloaters moving it up and down. Either way, it could move up and down pretty quickly.

Yea. There's certainly more than one large impressive object which appears at the back of the stage in the artwork. We won't know for sure until someone in the know fills us in (or maybe we get lucky with pictures).

Where is a picture of this telescoping machine?

I'd rather see pics of the golden dreams-less PP.

Note that the official Disney press release describes "Scenic elements that rise more than 80 feet above the lagoon", which definitely would support this (though things are obviously subject to change)

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

I keep hearing that WDI already has plans for a dark ride in Carsland shortly after that area opens. Does anyone know where in the land there would be room for such an attraction and will there be any non-CARS related stuff in the land? I hope they include references to Herbie the love bug and that old Silly Symphony cartoon with the cars (which actually inspired lasseter).

If this rumors true, it'd most likley be in the area behind TOT next to the new buildings that are going up right now.

The model in the Blue Sky Cellar is an early model, and there are many inaccuracies and contradictions to what is actually being built. The Fun Wheel project is done, and the pier was not extended around the attraction like the model showed. This has been subject to much debate on this forum as to whether Disney should even be showing us concepts that are inconsistent with the underwhelming finished project.
