And theres nothing for the lagoon to make it feel as if it's a real lagoon anyway. There aren't any boats out there or anything, it's just dead still water. The fountains would add some action. And it would only be a show done like every half hour, or hourly, not continuous.
Yeah, I was originally against the fountains on the lagoon until I read this. The lagoon is VERY boring, just a pool of water that doesn't move. The lagoon needs some action during the day to draw some attention to it. Plus, a small fountain show during the day would butter people up for WOC at night. ROA doesn't need a fountain show because there's so much action on it during the day. There's moving water and boats zooming around all over it.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

why would they go through the hassle and added expense of making a platform that can be hidden during the day if they planned on doing fountain shows all day long, just build the platform a show height and leave the fountains visible. Day time shows would also mean that the techs for the shows would have to work all day. I really doubt that they are going to run shows during the day.

It would not be all day long and it could be easily programable. Not to mention I herd this from an imagineer's lips myself. There are many places that have fountains that run continuously that don't require the constant supervision of techies all the time.

the way the union contract for the techs is, they would have to be on duty for the control system for the show to be running, there is no way disney could run daytime shows without them being there. No show on this scale would be allowed to run unmonitored, even if a daytime show was only fountains. I really don't think they are planning daytime shows

Well they are planning them, and like I said earlier, they are still working on it. As to weather it will actually happen is pure speculation. But the Imagineers want there to be daytime shows.

Anyone know when they plan on walling up the side of the pier by the ss rustworthy? I'm assuming soon if it is to premire by next spring. Will they work on mullholland madness at the same time, or wait till later?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

in regards to the fountains being used during the day, maybe they should just use the ones that will create the waves for the Crush sequence. That would give the bay an even more realistic ocean feel.

Also there is a video out there as well as photos of the guided tour they gave the media on the platform. That video shows the depth of the platform compared to the water level.

Maybe someone else that has seen it could reminds us how deep the platform is from water level when in the lowest position.

It's around 5 to 6 ft underwater.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

I think a daytime fountain show would add a lot to the empty bay... if even just once an hour. DCA needs those special extra touches... the bay is nothing like ROA which has lots of activity throughout the day. Why not utilize their investment to add a periodic show throughout the day? Set it to some Disney tunes and let it be a unexpected surprise for those walking around the bay, waiting in lines, riding the funwheel or just sitting to enjoy the views.

Without it the bay will continue to be an unutilized major footprint of the park during the daytime hours. Considering the amount of viewing areas being placed around the entire bay (SSS, WOC viewing, TSMM, new Paradise Garden) it would be something that could be enjoyed from any vantage point.

In regards to the model, are you sure. It has been some time since i saw it but i clearly remember it having the tiers wheelchair accesible in certain areas.

I know the model is not the final product but several aspects of it are very similar.
I use a scooter so I am lower to the ground and can set and study things, lol. The model is basically how they plan to do the viewing area but it does not include the stuff in the front like projectors or light poles. It definitely has stairs on the sides in the model. Now the disabled guests will go down into the theater like regular guests and will have to wait in line like everyone else. They already have the lower ramp in place.

Stairs slow down the crowd and accidents can happen. Also during the day they can roll carts down there to sell stuff or set up entertainment.

As for the hourly shows in the bay why have World of Colour but not hourly shows. If one does not fit the theming then the other does not fit the theming.

Don't count on it. I could see it happening maybe just a few scheduled times during the day but not every 15 minutes. The new mouseplanet update explains how it will take 10 minutes just to raise or lower the platform. That means they would have to leave all the fountains visible during the day for all those shows and they aren't about to let that happen.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Have the old-time white lights, until world of color starts. Start the show off with an explosion of color. The fountains at their brightest, the MFW lights. The perfect way to begin the World of color show. I think the MFW lights will not have the same impact if the lights were always color-patterns. People'd take it for granted and not consider it part of the show... I really wish they somehow could have dug the lagoon a little deeper and done this work down further so maybe we could've had a show like the legend of Mythica (themed to the pacific ocean of course) at TDS. That'd bring the lagoon alive. I also like the idea about the dark/flume ride in PP.It would add motion and purpose to the lagoon in the day, while not hinting at any of the effects at night... As for the 2 shows a night? Not really sure how that's gonna work but i'm sure the imagineers can figure something out.

Any word on which day this week the peeling of the orange is gonna start?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VI

Semi-hourly or hourly shows are definitely possible.

MousePlanet update mentioned that there are THREE positions for the platform. Hidden underwater, show level with nozzles 1 foot out of water, and service level with whole platform breaking water level. It then said it would take 10-15 minutes to FULLY raise the platform. So when they need to service the show, they'll have to think 15 minutes ahead.

For the show, since the platform is 5-feet underwater and each fountain nozzle is maybe 3-feet tall, in order to expose the nozzles by 1 foot, the platform would only have to raise three feet.

It can't take more than 2-3 minutes to raise from the hidden setting to the show setting.

Also, since the platform is three independent sections, they'll probably just use the middle section for the daytime shows (and use only fountains...no lights, etc). That will hide the full scope of the show's capabilities until the whole lagoon comes to life at night.
