HKDL's Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy to come to DLR

Along with the new fireworks show coming for Halloween 09, I heard that the Ghost Galaxy overlay from Hong Kong Disneyland is to come to Disneyland's Space Mt. this year.
It will feature a new soundtrack and reuse the lighting/effects from Rockin' Space Mountain only themed to Halloween.

    Spiel away:

That does not seem to make any
    sense.

The supernatural in a space port?
It does not even sound good
    on paper.

    Honestly, a Halloween overlay at
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad would make
    better sense, but I digress.

I am glad that a new Halloween offerings are
being added. However, a ghost galaxy
overlay in Space Mountain is really pushing it.

New soundtrack and Space Mountain being lit up inside, aside from the stars only? No. No. No. Even when Rockin' SM was happening, lighting up the inside of the ride looked awful. SM is supposed to be pitch black, IMO. Not to mention I LOVE the Giacchino soundtrack so I strongly oppose any changes to it.

So what they do is light up the inside of the ride?

Well, somewhat. For Rockin' SM they built all these metal frames with lights on them. These frames were put along the ride track at different points. These colored lights flashed along with the music as the car passed through them. Problem is, they light up so much, you can see the track, supports, etc. for the ride. For me, I found this to be really lame since Space Mountain is usually pitch black.

That would be so cool! As much as I love Space Mountain, I think that the renovation from 2005 is enough to keep people riding it for a while. Big Thunder Mountain, on the other hand, could use some love. Along with the fact that theming it to a haunted mine would be the coolest thing ever, IMO.

If it's seasonal, I don't see why not give it a try. I always like the opportunities to see new stuff, although I really disliked Rockin' Space Mountain or whatever it was.

    Hmmm interesting...

Mouseplanet has Space Mountain going down for refurbishment Sept 8-24, and Halloween Time starts Sept 25. It seems like something like this wouldnt need a long down time but theres probably some regular maintance, I dont know maybe its just a coincidence?

Interesting, maybe this is true. That certainly makes it sound very possible. I suppose it could be a coincedence, but that certainly makes it sound like it's a possibility. I wouldn't mind since it's short term, it might be cool.

You know…the Mickey in us.

Re: HKDL's Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy to come to DLR

I think the dates are a coincidence. The only time that SM can go down for refurbishments before next January-February is in September. Any other time and the park is going to have large crowds for Halloween and the holidays. Not to mention after a summer season it may need some TLC before the holidays and most people are back to school in September.

I can see Disney pulling off a good Halloween overlay, but only perhaps if it was at certain times. It would be neat if the regular SM ran all day then when it gets dark it could transform into the Halloween overlay ride. Putting it on another ride like Big Thunder Mountain still makes more sense though. Think about it, haunted mine ride vs. haunted space? Haunted Mine Ride makes way more sense.

This isn't a good idea. The lights in Rockin' Space Mountain were terrible, this is just an all-around bad idea.

Yes! I love Space Mountain dearly, glad to see someone who knows how lame the Rockin' lights were.
