BLUE SKY CELLAR Reopens Featuring The World Of Color

The Blue Sky Cellar reopened today at Disney's California Adventure. The Toy story Midway Mania and Boardwalk games exhibits have been removed and the cellar features new exhibits on the World Of Color and a new video loop going into greater detail about said show and the new lands coming to Disney's California Adventure.

Pacific Wharf and Paradise Pier nighttime concept art

During the press conference it was revealed that the World Of Color is a show far greater in scope than anything Disney has attempted before. How can this be in the small Paradise Pier Lagoon that couldn't even support Luminaria with it's scant pyrotechnics and projections? Simple. Creativity and money.

Steve Davison, the Creative Director of responsible for such amazing shows as Believe, Haunted Mansion Holiday and Small World Holiday detailed a few amazing details about the show, it's scope and what to expect. There is a fountain nozzle every eight feet on the grid being built right now. Their are fountains capable of oscillating in any direction and others capable of shooting over two hundred feet into the air.

Projections and fountains at varying distances will be used to create the same effect used in multi plane animation to bring the animation and amazing artwork to life. Existing animation and new artwork will be combined to deliver an experience that is wholly familiar yet totally new. The use of Fire was also confirmed through fire pillars and fire ball effects.

Included will be effects that envelope the 9,000 seat viewing area in an experience that is sure to be awe inspiring. Fantasmic will only be the king of night time entertainment at the Disneyland resort for another nine months or so. Perhaps you might want to get your spot in line now. This show promises to be amazing!

We will have additional photos and information for you shortly.

If you enjoyed this update, please consider sharing it with your friends on Twitter, Facebook and elsewhere. Thank you for your support.

Re: BLUE SKY CELLAR Reopens Featuring The World Of Color

Thank you for getting up early to share this with us Fishy!

And for those who can't make it to the park, Disney has launched a new Blue Sky Cellar web site: Disneyland Resort - Blue Sky Cellar

UPDATE:
Disney Video Added

Here's the press release and press photos that Disney released today:

Quote:
Disney Imagineers reveal details of ‘World of Color,’ a nighttime water spectacular coming in spring 2010

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 16, 2009) – Nestled in the Golden Vine Winery at Disney’s California Adventure, Blue Sky Cellar is a place where guests get a sneak preview of what’s new and what’s next during the expansion of the park. Beginning July 16, guests will see the first in-depth look at “World of Color,” the next major milestone in the expansion of Disney’s California Adventure, opening in spring 2010. Disney Imagineers, the creative minds behind the design and construction of Disney theme parks and attractions, are sharing their models, concepts and sketches to reveal the development of this spectacular water, animation and special effects show.

At Blue Sky Cellar, guests are invited to preview works in progress at Disney’s California Adventure by immersing themselves in a facsimile of an Imagineering workspace. Based on the belief that idea gathering is best when “the sky’s the limit,” Blue Sky Cellar is designed to resemble an Imagineering “charette,” an extended creative idea development meeting. Guests receive an inside look at how Imagineers take “blue sky” ideas and refine them into the classic storytelling that characterizes Disney theme park attractions and adventures.

In this whimsical immersive setting, Imagineers have taken over a former wine cellar and set up shop. Wine barrels have turned into work stations and the former wine tasting room has become a screening room where a video showcases the behind-the-scenes magic that goes into the creation of new and upcoming attractions for Disney’s California Adventure. Additionally, guests in Blue Sky Cellar will have fun testing their knowledge of Disney trivia at one of the interactive workstations.

The video seen in the screening room features Imagineers describing the approach and vision of the Disney California Adventure expansion. Guests will see footage of model-making, sculpting, Blue Sky meetings and all the aspects of bringing a Disney concept to life. In the latest video, Imagineer Steven Davison and others show guests some of the astounding animation and water effects they can expect to see in “World of Color” in 2010.

Included in the original announcement of the multi-year expansion of Disneyland Resort in fall 2007, Blue Sky Cellar is part of the overall commitment to keep the community and Disneyland Resort guests informed of the exciting new and upcoming plans for the resort. Guests are encouraged to check back for updates on additional exciting developments and attractions, both at Blue Sky Cellar and online at www.DisneysCaliforniaAdventure.com.

Eh, the new amphitheater isn't very inspiring to me unlike its concept art. Seems to be consistent with the other side of the lagoon near TSMM where budgets have been slashed as well. However, World of Color itself looks pretty cool.

Re: BLUE SKY CELLAR Reopens Featuring The World Of Color

BTW, in the new Blue Sky Cellar website, the Princess and the Frog is also listed as being a part of World of Color. I don't think that has been mentioned anywhere on MC yet, but there's so much info it's hard to double check it all.

Looks as though the Paradise Garden Grill is simply a rehashing of the buildings currently there. I guess that makes sense, but I was honestly hoping for something more beautiful and creative. Still, just getting rid of that damn Burger is great enough for me!

Thanks, Norm!

Just a correction though.. it's Luminaria... not Illuminaria.

This is the bit that excites me the most. They are going to be replicating multi-plane animation in water, fire and projections on the scale of the full lagoon!? That is truly insane.

Thanks Fishy.
The interactive play fountain has me confused. Isn't it the same thing as the old Cosmic Waves. The had to shut down that because of kids using as a bathroom. Wouldn't this be the same thing? Guess where all the old Cosmic Waves fountain heads are going?

Hopefully they'll have a CM or two on duty around there to watch things. Or a video camera to monitor the situation at the very least.

Wow, WOC just keeps getting better and better. This may be the first attraction I actually have to see on opening night.
